What are the names (and if known, derivations) of the DVA systems on the Underground (and DLR perhaps)?
I know:
Central and W&C: Sonia, because her voice gets on your nerves. Northern: Celia - someone told me this was an acronym - Creates Excellent Line Information Ambience - but not sure how true that is. Jubilee: I've recently heard Anita for this - but no derivation.

I thought Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Victoria were just Emma after Emma Clarke. The original Central voice was Janet Mayo, that was the one referred to as Sonia. Northern is Celia after Celia Drummond. Piccadilly line is done by Julie Berry. Never heard a colloquial name for that one though. Don't know who the Jubilee is nowadays, often just referred to as Celia though. The original voice ("this train terminates at...") is Anita.

CELIA - Creates Excellent Line Information Ambience. This is correct according to a previous Northern Line General Manager.
I always thought ANITA stood for Another Naff In Train Announcer?
On the 1996 Stock there have been two female voices (and still are?). The newer voice (sounds dusky) states where we are and "change for" while the original one (sounds a bit like the Queen??) says the destination. Has anyone noticed how she seems to emphasise "NEASDEN" as a destination. Then, of course, there is the pre-recorded male voice announcements - no less than Michael Meech, who used to do the travel slots on radio during the morning rush some years ago.

CELIA - Creates Excellent Line Information Ambience. This is correct according to a previous Northern Line General Manager. Celia's parents must have known what she was born to do then. It is Celia Drummond though, listen to her demos, particularly the London Stock Exchange one, you can tell it's the same voice.

Don't know who the Jubilee is nowadays, often just referred to as Celia though. The original voice ("this train terminates at...") is Anita. The Jubilee Line new (deeper) one is Celia Drummond. 2-3 trains on the Northern Line also have this Celia Drummond variation because the remaining trains on the Northern Line although referred to as Celia actually sound too high to be her unless she has two different styles! I believe the real Celia is that one on the Jubilee/2-3 trains on the Northern and not the majority of Northern - that is just a fake to me!! ;D (The 2-3 train Celia has been discussed in the Celia thread in the Northern Line section, with a link to a youtube clip which demonstrates the voice on route to Leicester Sq which i have a sound recording if anyone is interested). districtdave.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=Trains&action=display&thread=7656&page=1 - This thread should explain all in relations to lines. I was probably the first to also introduce the concept of "Julie Berry" after some hard research on National Rail forums - before then everyone didn't know her name. She does Heathrow Connect now I believe as well as Southern Trains.

That is the first I have heard of his name - I used to refer to him as a 'shouty man' type guy. For those who don't know he does the manual announcements on the Jubilee Line and also the Croydon Tramlink?

I thought the Croydon was Geoff Clark........I use it all the time and the Jubilee Line shouty man and the Tramlink voice are quite different.

the northern and jubilee in my opinion have the only 'none anoying announcments' since janet has dissapeared I did think vera was good to and emma clark really anoyes the hell out of me also the lifts at chalk farm have this woman now who sounds like judi dench and really sends a chill down my spine! I hardly ever use them beacause chalk farm is so shallow and they always break down you can still hear vera in the lifts at belsize park the dlr one should be called csp or cant speak properly!

Piccadilly line is done by Julie Berry. Never heard a colloquial name for that one though. Julie Berry can also be heard on the Merseyrail system. Took me a bit by surprise when I travelled on the Piccadilly earlier this year to hear her voice. Was half expecting her to tell me that "this train terminates at Liverpool Central"

Who is the latest DVA artist who tubelines have installed are pretty much all of their station platforms? The system itself is very clever and sounds just a like a good quality manual PA, although is automatic. I was particularly impressed by how un-robotic the service update sounds on it. "Northbound Northern Line platform, the train now approaching is to Edgware. Please stand back from the platform edge"

I agree it could be Celia Drummond, obviously she does have different styles since she is a voiceover artist. But I think the Northern line is definitely her, sounds much more like her demos than the Jubilee does. Jubilee is a much deeper female voice. Could be Celia trying to sound manly. ;D For comparison; London Bridge - Jubilee Line: ClickLondon Bridge - Northern Line: Click(Source: www.haltestellenansage.de/)

Hey, after listening to stock exchange I think it does sound very like the Northern Line voice over artist so I take back what I said. However I still also go with my original thoughts when hearing another one of the sound files on that site as being much like the Jubilee Line as well. Stock exchange sounds more like the Northern Line DVA but there are slight phrasings which are very Jubilee Line like too.
