Just looked at tfl.gov.uk and it says District is suspended on Richmond branch due late finish engineering. It is 0922 now, has Richmond branch been shut down since SOT ?? I assume it has
If so, what could have gone so badly wrong to see the service suspended for so long? Does anyone know ?

Yes, has been shut since start of traffic. I know that it was closed from 23:30 last night for scheduled work, so must be something to do with that.
I assume that the scheduled Richmond trains are diverted to Parsons Green or Ealing Broadway, so as to maintain the overall line frequency.

The TfL website says: "Minor delays are occurring on the rest of the line. Replacment buses are operating between Turnham Green and Gunnersbury."

I was due to leave ECMDT at 05:21 this morning - finally left at 06:22.
It was 10 points at TG that were the problem apparently - Traction Current was off all roads so there was no district or Picc service between Hamm and Acton Town until about 06:10. The problem was unresolved.
The route is secured for Ealing and no service to Richmond (as stated) - I believe they will not be able to look at the problem until after close of traffic tonight.

Did the depot current go off as part of the Late Surrender Protection? A LSP in that area is always fun! Then the district line make it worse when it resumes, by sending the bulk of the Richmonds to Ealing, which can't cope before 7am! What fun they'll be when these points are in everywhere ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was 10 points at TG that were the problem apparently. Shame they did'nt keep the Richmond EB Freight with conductor rail installed and you could have refreshed the EB Fast. Oops nanny state railway rules again - a live con rail in the neighbourhood. OUCH........

The TfL website now says "DISTRICT LINE: Minor delays are occurring due to a signal failure at Kew Gardens." So, are trains running to Richmond now?

these points are known as style M63 i was in charge last night so im taking the flack over this abit the reason why was at the back of the switch rail there is also another type of detector known as a supplementry drive detector the reason why no richmond service was a tiny micro switch failed inside one of these detectors and would not detect the switch reverse it was ok normal but not reverse at approx 14:50 a spare was obtained and was changed thus allowing a service to richmond

Wow, Sir! That's an explanation and a half! I wonder how the problem was identified...it's bad enough on a car trying to find a component that has gone west?

Oops aet and I thought Tfl were blaming NR for signal failure at Kew Gardens. You could have got away with it but then nothing worse than than a supplemental back drive.

That was a fun day. Got the call that the points couldnt reverse so that was it from there. Because of the way the signalling is designed at Earls court you take off a buffer zone of traction current to protect the actual area that is affected so hammersmith had all four juice sections off and acton-chiswick park was off so nothing moved for an hour or so. When I started my night shift later that day it was still quite bad and there were hours of numbers left on the programme machines at places like south harrow, hammersmith and kings cross which indicates lots of cancelled trains usually.
All in all quite a fun little day im sure.

Interesting reading on the Picc service manager's page for that and the next day. Namely the first call informing them of the LSP was garbled and didnt give much info, next day, they didnt bother ringing the Picc at all! ;D
