Blimey! ChX Rd closed for 4 years! That'll be hideous! Disappointed to hear they will have to demolish the Astoria. Hey ho, progress.

The layout at platform level, nor the way the interchange to the Central line is designed, appear to be very well thought out.

And indeed, if you come from the Central Platforms, you cut across one of the shafts before the ecys to the ticket hall area!

**this is not a post by Colin, but one moved to the correct thread!!** So on TfL today they are announcing big works on TCR to build in Crossrail and a new station. Already lots happening on that crossroads. Does anyone know how much of a trial the kings-cross northern ticket hall project was for this new project? I take it lots of technology and processes were tried out for boring new tunnels that close to existing infrastructure. We've all seen the stability monitoring and safety devices put in place at Kings Cross for the new deep works. Can anyone elabourate on the level of safety they will have to put in place at TCR to keep it running whilst they build a new station?

I hope the development above the station site isn't bland as most seem to be. Personal view is they should shove another Centre Point up since it could recoup some of the money spent on Crossrail and there would be space for another Astoria and some decent retail/leisure units to revitalise that stretch of Oxford Street.

And indeed, if you come from the Central Platforms, you cut across one of the shafts before the ecys to the ticket hall area! I did the signal, electrical and communications CrossRail enabling works survey there in the early 1990s. When I submitted my report I actually suggested siting a new Station operations room in that shaft as the position was ideal from an all round visibliity point of view covering the routes to and from the escalators. Funny it all seems so long ago now and of course looking back it was! The original CrossRail plans would've impacted large areas of the Central line platforms and disused area as well as the lower circulating area and the fan and vent shafts. I expect things may have changed since then. Certainly most of the work I did tracing and tagging services and cabling would probably be next to useless now because when the CrossRail project was shelved the planned maintenance of records and recording of updates never took place. As far as I know of all the CrossRail sites that I surveyed only the information that I gathered at Paddington was used and that was when the Lawn Ticket hall was remodelled.
