Without seeing insifde, and just externally and from a photo, you have to say that they did an amazing job in Hungary. This is the sort of work that Acton Works may have carried out in the distant past.

I notice that the blue "skirt" runs all the way up to the edge of the door, with no white gap as seen on the refurbished D stocks.

Nice to see "full size" car numbers of the dimensions that the old gold style had. Underground cars and LT trams and trolleybuses had larger car numbers that used on LT buses, though knowing the old LPTB, no doubt even these probably differed subtly too!
Maybe Boris could send the Hungarian firm a Routemaster with the instruction to "build me one of these x 2760"?

When i was at bombardier in derby looking at the new vic stock they implied they would do away with the bombed trains to eliminate any sense of "shrinery" (thats right shrinery)

When i was at bombardier in derby looking at the new vic stock they implied they would do away with the bombed trains to eliminate any sense of "shrinery" (thats right shrinery) There was a fair bit of debate as to what car numbers would be carried. Re-use the old ones and it's a reminder of 7/7, use new ones and it's still a reminder of what happened on 7/7. What not just knock 1 train (3 units) out of the timetable until the S6's arrive? |

They really show up the state of the rest of the C Stock fleet and I'm not just referring to the latest 'waterblaster' paint/dye attacks. Don't Metronet SSL have any penalty clauses regarding 'ambience' and if so why are they still solvent? (Oops forgot - they're not.) Seriously, why are the A and D Stock refurbs kept in so much better condition? (Despite the A's wavering a bit lately.) Surely they could have been given a refurb half-life repaint? After all it was deemed worthwhile to fully refurbish the D Stock just for a few more years' use. The external appearance of the C Stock is a disgrace to Metronet and, by default, LU itself.

Does anyone know how often trains are repainted? Is it only when a major repair or refurbishment is needed?

AFAIK trains have *never* been repainted ever since liveried rolling stock was reintroduced c.1989 - more's the pity...

To be fair to any Metronet employees on here they have made an excellent job in keeping the interiors clean, but all this is let down by the tatty, scuffed, scratched exteriors.

Indeed, C Stock have not been repainted (apart from the Yellow Pages & Back the Olympic Bid trains) since being refurbished in "1991" and "1992" - quoting the plates inside the cars.
I thought that when Acton Works was still in full swing, acid etching the aluminium stock and repainting '38TS/COPs was done every 7 years??
Now i realise that the C Stock 2-pack paint job when they went to Doncaster was a much more thorough process involving fire retardant paint & lacquer being baked on but the trains are looking decidedly tired now.

As someone referred to earlier the "new" cars have different floor lino the other C Stock.
5606 has refurb D Stock flat lino, the version found in the centre of the cars- background: light grey, then speckled: dark grey/red/green.
(The cab retains normal C Stock ribbed lino- background: dark grey, then speckled yellow/black/white)
6606 has refurb D Stock flat lino, the version found in the door areas- background: dark grey, then speckled: red/white/green.

Had unit 5606 as an outer unit on Mon 4th. After finding 3 defects on it I sent it back to ERD for a changeover. Didn't get any pictures like I wanted to in the end as I had to faff about writing, calling the defects in and dealing with the changeover thereby missing my valuable photting time.  |

What does it say under the passenger doors on the new trailers? C69s have 'Metro Cammell 1969', and C77s say 'Metro Cammell 1977', but what is it on 6606 and 6734? I had a closer look at 6606 today, of the 8 step-plates by the doors, 7 are new/old polished "Metro Cammell 1969" but one is slightly dirtier and is "Metro Cammell 1977" ! |

To clarify:
5606+6606, 5734+6734 are the "new units", which ones have these replaced.
I have so far failed to bump into the following:
5505+6505, 5548+6548, 5556+6556, 5560+6560 so I am guessing it is two of these?

5505-6505 became 5606-6606
5713-6713 became 5734-6734.
Only the trailer cars are new, the DM cars were renumbered.
5548-6548 were repaired and are running with the same numbers.
