Hi again everyone.
You may remember i posted a bulletin about re-extending the Central line to Ongar and the whole bulletin had two different arguments and i agree with both however what about this idea.
We all know that Ongar and North Weald are rural areas and that if the Central line got re-extended it would not be justified because:
Lack of passenger numbers
Track Upgrade
Double tracking would have to be instated.
Electrification
Bringing it to tube standards
More rolling stock needed
Central seriously overcrowded
and many more...
If a extension would happen it would have to be when the Central line receives new rolling stock and when it has been upgraded again to be able to handle more passengers or if one of its branches was transfered to a new line such as the Chelsea-Hackney line.
If it was too happen, and to make it justified this is what I propose.
At Ongar a National Rail Connection was made to Chemlsford and Stansted Airport. This would work by the West Anglia being Extended from Harlow Town to Ongar and then up to Chelmsford. So this would be the line:
Stansted Airport
Bishop's Stortford
Sawbridgeworth
Harlow Mill
Harlow Town
(new track extension south of Harlow)
Ongar
Writtle
Chelmsford
This would mean that connections would be made to Chelmsford and Stansted Airport also to Harlow and Bishop's Stortford which are currently the most developing towns in the UK with populations of around 45,000 and growing rapidly. This would mean that High Number of Passengers would be able to connect to the Central line from Ongar. This would mean that it would be justified to double track and electrify and connect the branch to Epping and that all services that would normally terminate at Epping would now terminate at Ongar. This all day service would encourage more passenger numbers especially if North Weald and Ongar were put inside the Zonal System, where Oyster Cards could be used.
The other benefit is if Either the Central line, West Anglia Main Line or Great Eastern Line were part suspended passengers would be able to use one of the other lines to get home for example...
If the Central line was suspended between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone passengers would be able to get home by, for example traveling to Harlow Town and then changing for the new Stansted-Chelmsford line to Ongar for the Central line down to, for example loughton.
If Stansted Terminal 2 gets the go ahead high improvements in rail would be needed and this would be hold a high amount of the demand from the new Airport Terminal along with improvements to the Stansted Express service.
Not only that but people who live in Chelmsford would be able to travel to Stansted Airport or, for example Bishop's Stortford and vice versa with ease.
This therefore begs the question would the Central line would be able to cope with the High Increase of passenger numbers.... well. NO but once it receives new rolling stock and upgrades it could and would help fund and improvements made to it.
A extension of the Central line to Stansted Airport is just impossible for so many reasons but i believe a extension of the Central line to Ongar and a extension of the West Anglia Main Line from Harlow Town to Chelmsford via Ongar would be a good idea.
Please give me back any views/feedback/questions you have.
THANKS ALL ;D
