Am I the only one who becomes increasingly annoyed with Platform 1 at Epping Station. During the evening rush, there is nothing more annoying than feeling the train swerve over to the other rail and arrive at Platform 1. This then involves a range of rugby tackles and Krypton Factor style moves to get to the footbridge. Some days, people queue down the platform just to get over the bridge, with other customers trying to get down the stairs and onto the train. This annoys me more when Platform 2 is completely empty, and remains empty even after the train has left Platform 1 and gone back to West Ruislip! Those stairs are just simply annoying and I wish we had exit barriers on both platforms. Anyway, part rant, part question. ;D ;D

It's not the best feeling, no. Epping really is quite the busy station and it certainly could do with a second exit. I remember seeing something resembling a small disused exit on platform 1 but it may have led to another building... I might be wrong.
On a positive note I love the fact that the trains approach Epping station so quickly, even through the crossover. It's so much more exciting than loads of other lines that crawl to a halt at the end of the line.

Indeedy, it is quite exciting - passing a platform toilet at about 50mph! Yes, there is an exit on Platform 1, but it's locked and is opened by station staff if required. There's an information calling system, there. I love the way everyone gets angry when the queue of passengers waiting to cross the bridge to get home has to move to one side to let a random person come down the stairs on his way out for a night of clubbing or football practice!

I'm surprised that LU don't just build a flat walkway across the former trackbed towards Ongar, although I'm sure EOR wouldn't like that idea!

Now that's a nice idea - like Chingford (sort of)

Trains run into Epping quite quickly because there is a considerable overrun available beyond the station. Also, the crossover track is quite long, meaning that it doesn't curve away from the main line too quickly. Compare this with the way the trains crawl into Ealing Broadway.
I thought that all crossovers and points on the Central were supposed to have been converted to high speed running. So maybe someone can tell me why the following are taken so slowly?
Woodford Junction (easrtbound to outer rail and westbound from inner rail) North Acton Junction (West Ruislip branch bound trains) The approach to Liverpool Street westbound.
Other crossovers are literall caned over i.e. eastbound into Bethnal Green.
And what is going on with the speed restriction over the bridge crossing the M11 between Chigwell and Roding Valley - it's been in place for about 3 years!
And of course, I've often wondered why trains crawl into Loughton on the westbound. I know it's a fairly sharp curver, but the 62 stock used to go much quicker around it.

Entering Queensway WB is taken slow. Same for Marble Arch EB.
I'd imagine Liverpool Street WB is slow because of the tight curve not far west from the station, and probably the same reason why entering St Paul's EB is slow too.

Marble Arch EB is restricted to 20mph, Queensway WB is 25mph - and you're right about the curves!

Is the problem at the M11 bridge embankment subsidence - seem to have that thought in my head for some reason.

Some of the curves aren't that tight! An example of over cautiousness I'm afraid - as I said, they were taken quicker in the 62TS days.

That speed restriction was in place back in the sixties and seventies, IIRC for the reason a60k stated above and long before the M11 bridge was built. I'm not sure if it has been continuous or if it may be a recurring problem.

It was removed when the line was resignalled then reinstated after a couple of years.

It was removed when the line was resignalled then reinstated after a couple of years. I remember when ATO was introduced, it was one of the sections where the train reached 100 km/h.
