Oxford Circus Victoria line southbound is at long last being tiled, after a year or so of cement walls. These are standard size square white tiles, not terribly interesting. The original seat back pattern has been restored though with new tiles, that with the dots representing the station.
Euston has the original Vic grey scheme, with much tiling replaced like-for-like and freshly grouted - looks quite smart :-)
Kings Cross still has bare cement walls, with a few old tiles clinging on.
Warren Street however *seems*, from the first few rows, to be getting a pseudo-Yerkes scheme to in with the Northern line platforms, albeit with square tiles!! There are some black vertical columns of tiling by the passageways, and the lower half of the walls has got Yerkes cream colour tiles. They're only to midriff height so far, looking forward to what comes next.
The era of uniform grey on the Victoria line is certainly at an end!

I thought that the original like-for-like tiling at Euston was quite disappointing really - doesn't even look terribly new. I was impressed, however, by the new style train time boards (whatever the technical term is) on both the Victoria and Northern line, similar boards upstairs by the ticket office, and the spotlights above the Passenger Help Points, which help make them really stand out.

I think they're trying to make the stations more cohesive, i.e. all the platforms on seperate lines are similarly decorated. Hence why they've done the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria platforms at Oxford Circus in white, and why they're doing the Victoria platforms at Warren Street in a similar style to the Northern line platforms. I'm interested to see how the Piccadilly platforms at Green Park will end up.
I personally dislike this, I think regardless of how horrible the original design was, all stations should look like how they were originally intended!

That does seem to be the pattern - and I guess that's continuing a pattern in place since around the time the Victoria was built.
I agree that you don't want to destroy original tiling just for the sake of it - somewhere like Arsenal proves how a quality refurb of a Yerkes station in basically the original style can look great.
On the other hand I would quite like to see some of the seat recess murals used as the basis of retiling of other Vic platforms.

Are they not just being refurbished in the way that the InfraCo best sees fit? With the exception of the stations, such as Regent's Park, which retain their "heritage features".
Some of the more modern designs (like the snakes and ladders of Oxford Circus) are just as heritagey as old fashioned tiles, and better than plain white toilet wall tiling!

What would be best is if they re-did the stations in the original designs. I'd love to the original Yerkes tiling back at Green Park (Piccadilly line)! It's obviously not impossible as there are detailed maps of the designs (courtesy of Doug Rose), it's just a question of whether they can be arsed, and of course, money.
