In case you weren't aware I saw a poster advertising that if you have a railcard (e.g. Young Persons) you can apply for a reduced cap for your off peak oyster prepay travel... how handy! Must try and find a tube or Overground station with an open ticket office

I got mine done at Victoria's District Line ticket office, which is always staffed but never has any customers. I just handed over both cards and it was done with no fuss. I think your Oyster Card needs to be registered.

It should be, but they'll register it for you right there if it isn't.

Correct - Registration is required, it only affects the off-peak travelcard cap. You must have your photocard with you and cannot let others borrow your Oyster card once it's got the discount on. (Standard adult cards with pre pay only can be lent to others.)

Indeed - did my first one of these in the ticket office last Thursday! If your Oyster is not registered you'll have to do a form, the only way you can get into the 'discount' menu on a ticket office machine is going through the registration mode first - as for off peak travel, I thought Network/YP/Senior cards were only valid after 10:00..? I have a Network card myself and this has been the case since I have had it.

I gather that I can get a cap if I ever get one, as I have a Disabled Person's R/C. I assume that you can get one if you do not live in Greater London? However when I go up To Town from Southampton I get a Travelcard and use that to its max.

Yep, a Disabled Persons card is on the list.........it's all here: www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/singlefares/6769.aspxPresumably they have altered the 10:00 thing, as it lists Peak and Off Peak cap. Very interesting. I haven't really looked at the prices before on these........but some are fantastic!!! £3.10 for a O/P 1-2

Must remember to get my Oyster capped... I'm passing through Watford Junction every day this week, should try and remember and use a window rather than a machine... I'm assuming Watford Junction counts as an 'Overground' station in terms of being able to apply the cap...

So I can go to a ticket office with my oyster card (a standard adult one) and my YPR and they'll do it?
UG - must have your photocard with you? I assume you mean your YPR photocard, as my Oyster doesn't have and never has had a photocard. If I need one would they be able to do this at the ticket office?
(This is, of course, assuming I can find a ticket office open when I'm next in London).

It's no different to having it with you when you travel with a paper ticket, really, and getting extra ones done for Oyster would just be a nightmare!! As mentioned above, the only extra thing you may have to do is to get the card registered if it is not already. Registration forms are - or should - be available at all stations and the ticket office staff can do it then and there.

Ah right. So do I presume that when you go with your Oyster card with the new cap you must have your YPR with you? My card's already registered . Thanks !

Only since the new fares revision at the beginning of this month. Previously you could purchase a paper travelcard with one of the mentioned discount cards, but couldn't use it with Oyster.

I assume you still have to have it with you - although that really does just sound ripe for misuse.
