Use overhead power to electrify the Met between Finchley Road and Aylesbury / all other destinations.
Then would also electrify the line using overhead power between Harrow and Marylebone
Have S stock (fitted with dual power systems (3rd rail and OLE)) run on all services, including Marylebone to Aylesbury
On the fast, increase the line speed (along with the top speed of S stock) to 100mph
Wouldn't that be cool ?

I believe overhead electrification was proposed for the Chiltern services several years back, but the residents of Chorleywood and Amersham opposed this due to the unsightly overhead wires. Chiltern thus decided to stay with their diesel service.

On that last point, I think Chiltern Railways are in the process of upgrading the parts of the line they share with LU to allow faster running. And yes it would be cool, would cut my commute from Aylesbury by a lot.

Overhead lines- horrific! Couldn't have them on the extension line! I do think the S stock should be quicker! If I was the Met line boss- I would delay the S stock and make sure there was proper seating in the trains! I would design a 2+2 layout that would allow for wheelchair access! 40 seats per car must be possible! I would also make sure any new trains didn't sound like those aweful siemens trains that actually 'sing' at you! I 'experienced' the class 450s today! Bring back the 4CEPs!

I believe overhead electrification was proposed for the Chiltern services several years back, but the residents of Chorleywood and Amersham opposed this due to the unsightly overhead wires. Chiltern thus decided to stay with their diesel service. OLE would have been proposed with the original crossrail (western branches were the Watford DC lines, both Chiltern lines and GWML) OLE has recently (by the RSSB in 2007) was examined for Chiltern (only as far as snow hill). But under the RSSB study there would be minimal benefits given the price of diesel at the time and the lack of any carbon tax, etc (ie commuter railways aren't any better / significantly more efficient enough under electrification) however OLE is the standard for all future *new* electrification projects and has been done recently (ECML in the 80's) though national parks and over listed structures, so the local won't have a leg to stand on, whenever, eventually HM Gov / Notwork Rail / DaFT / etc do electrify the line (the NLL has 3rd rail under OLE so technically it should be possible) see this PDF - www.rssb.co.uk/pdf/reports/research/T633_rpt_final.pdf - 170 pages!

If I was boss of the Met I would...
Four-track the central section and upgrade it all to NR standards and then look at which commuter services from the NR terminals on the line have the most connections and add them as branches. Really need to start creating more RER/S-Bahn style services to cope with any future demand, my experience of them on the continent has been great.

But the Met and the Chiltern lines are some of the least congested ones in London I think, although in the case of the Met it is actually rather busy in central London, just not very busy in the outer parts.

Yes, an extra heavy overhaul, a la 1938ts!

Nevertheless, the 1938ts EHO was only partially successful as the reliability figures were only better for a couple of years before falling back to the failure rate of non-EHO trains.
If I was boss of the Met we'd still have Dreadnoughts ;D

Wouldn't be a worry about seats would there! Mind you, standing could be a problem!

...I would allow select trains to call at Neasden and Willesden Green, just to bring back memories of the Metropolitan Railway.

I think you meant to say Jubilee. If I were boss of the Met, I would also do extra-heavies on the A stock--as well as running COP and F stock trains on "Heritage Days" a couple of times a year.

I would love to know how you would run F stock? Very sadly, not a single car survived! The CO/CP stock does exist. With the conversion of the A end R38 DM at Magnapps a 5 car train could be used (using the 3 cars at Quainton and the D end CP at Walthamstow)! There are also 3 dreadnoughts floating around. Get the 2 T stock cars from the spa railway and get motors back in them, and run 2 of the dreadnoughts with them too!
There are the Ashbury coaches too! Get em all out!

That's a recipe for a train to sit down somewhere, I wouldn't want to be travelling on the train behind that train the day that runs ;D

I would do that, and get rid of the 50mph speed restriction. And also, I would remove graffiti properly!
