Forgive my newbie question if i've missed the answer to this somewhere on this in-depth message board's coverage Between White City and North Acton around the East Acton area there are two bridge over roads with additional empty bridges next to the actual central line. where the central line pops under the GWML at old oak common/north pole depot, the old bridge appears (on Google Earth) to be 4 tracks wide (although the new bridge for the north pole depot doesn't). a brief look on Wikipedia, Clive Underground Line Guide (CULG), New Adlestrop railway atlas, and even here (District Dave's forum) shows no mention of any old line (maybe GWR?) there or attempts to 4 track the central there either. anyone got any clues, guesses, etc An old branch line for mainline trains ? thanks in advance some pics (MS Live earth); looking from the west, where the tracks return to normal running after white city. note extra wide footbridge looking from the west, a bridge before East Acton looking from the west, East Acton station looking from the west, a bridge after East Acton station looking from the south, the central line dives under the GWML (circa Old Oak Common depot / North Pole). I believe the new lines at the bottom of the photo are for North Pole. It would appear the other lines are 4(ish) tracks wide

If funny you should mention this since it just came up here recently. The line between white city and Ealing Broadway was built as a joint line by the CLR and the GWR. In '38 the great western quadrupled its tracks, obstensively to avoid their freight traffic being held up by the centrals passenger trains. It was abandoned in the mid 60's. It made a junction with the West London Line at the White City end and ended at North Acton. Hope this helps!

There's a 1920 photo of the flyover in Rails Through The Clay. Also, have a look at the bridge where Wood Lane crosses the Central line - there are two bridges and the one over the abandoned section is in GWR style brick.
The additional pair of tracks are, strangely, still shown on the scale plan for the area which was redrawn upon resignalling in the 1990s!

This is going to annoy me if I don't work it out so where was the junction with the WLL? My current guess is just after Wood Lane along the Westway route. Thanks in advance.

Just south of the Westway at Viaduct Junction which was alongside the Wood Lane milk depot receiving regular traffic off this line.
