Latest circular e-mail from TfL about the DLR works:
An intensive programme of works is underway on DLR to enable three-carriage
trains to operate from 2010, increasing on-board capacity by 50 per cent.
These works mean some short term changes to DLR services including reduced
services between Lewisham and Crossharbour and the temporary closure of
Tower Gateway station.

Lewisham - Crossharbour reduced services
From 30 June until 25 August 2008 services between Lewisham and
Crossharbour will significantly reduce to every 10 minutes. This will mean
many passengers will be unable to board trains during peak times.
Services on this route will operate between Lewisham - Island Gardens and
between Island Gardens - Bank in each direction. At Island Gardens
passengers will have a step-free, cross-platform interchange to continue
their journey.
These service changes are required as trains operate on a single track
between Lewisham - Island Gardens and Mudchute - Island Gardens during
construction to extend platforms. Trains will continue to serve all
stations, however it may become necessary to temporary close some stations
if they become overcrowded.
Passengers who board at Cutty Sark and Mudchute are advised to use an
alternative station.
Cutty Sark passengers can use the foot tunnel to Island Gardens where a
10 minute service to Bank via Canary Wharf will be available.
Mudchute passengers are advised to use Crossharbour station where a 3½
minute service to Bank via Canary Wharf will operate.
Four supplementary bus services will operate Monday to Friday at peak times
to support train services.
06:30 to 10:30* - northbound only, 15:30 to 21:00 - southbound only
Routes operate in one direction only.:
DLR1:
Island Gardens-Canary Wharf - via Mudchute, Crossharbour and South Quay (on
Limeharbour), up to every 5 minutes.
DLR2:
Lewisham-Cutty Sark - via all stations, up to every 3 minutes.
DLR3:
Greenwich-North Greenwich express - via Cutty Sark, up to every 3 minutes.
DLR4:
Lewisham-North Greenwich express - via Cutty Sark, every 10 minutes (*07:00
to 09:30 in the morning peak)
Please use the supplementary bus service or alternative travel routes
wherever possible, ensuring that your ticket or Oyster card is valid for
any journey you make.
A valid ticket or Oyster card is required for the bus services. Please
allow extra time for your journey.
Tower Gateway temporary closure
Tower Gateway station will close from the end of service on 27 June 2008
until Spring 2009 for platform extension and escalator upgrade works.
Once completed, passengers will experience:
More space on platforms
Longer canopies with increased weather protection
Easier boarding and alighting from trains
New energy-saving escalators
During this closure, passengers will need to use alternative routes. For
travel planning and advice use Journey Planner at
journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk.
