I think it's a remnant of Docklands' former life - for the big cranes that used to run up and down - and which can still be seen here and there in the area. More than that I do not know!

What livery is the train on the left in? I don't recognise it. Looks like an advert livery.

That's not West India Quay. That's the DLR tracks approaching Heron Quays (to the left), or approaching the sharp left hand bend before you reach South Quay station (to the right). Photo taken from the Britannia hotel on Marsh Wall, if I'm not mistaken?

I'm sure that that basin is now Canary Wharf LUL station. Just an edit to say it's in the basin just south. tinyurl.com/3zccdq <- Google map In the very first photo, I thought it was Ford's 'Nam plant.

It's a fair cop - it looked like WIQ in the small pic, but I have to admit that it just isn't WIQ in the big photo!

I doubt those are crane tracks... I wouldn't have thought they'd have points... but it's quite conceivable that there were tracks for goods trains along the docks.

These are old Port of London Authority tracks from memory, possibly even from West India Dock Company days. They're definately not crane tracks.

Ahhh! I spent a couple of years working at the 'Wharf and having seen cranes and tracks (separately, it turns out) just put them together in my ahead and assumed that one ran along the other. Thanks for enlightening me!

Ahhh! I spent a couple of years working at the 'Wharf and having seen cranes and tracks (separately, it turns out) just put them together in my ahead and assumed that one ran along the other. Thanks for enlightening me! Some cranes were fixed, others moved. Movable cranes do run along tracks, but they run on a much wider gauge - standard gauge wagons could run underneath the ones in Bristol. I'll try and dig out some photos later. Chris
