I know that they run non-stop between Harrow and Finchley Rd, but were there any trains running non-stop between Harrow and Moor Park that were classified as semi-fast?

No, these trains are classified as Fast trains. Some staff at Harrow class slack hour Fast Baker Street trains as Semi-fast when they stop at Wembley Park-this is wrong. They are simply Fast trains that make an additional stop at Wembley Park!

Talking of this do you think it's misleading to put fast on the destination blinds, esp London bound, the number of times as a "FAST ALDGATE" comes in to King's Cross,a punter has asked me "Is this non stop to Algate?"

I agree with you that it could well be misleading, but would the Motormen take kindly to changing the blind on City trains beyond Baker Street?

There are 3 destinations with 'Fast' on the front; FAST AMERSHAM, FAST BAKER ST. and FAST ALDGATE. I like this personally-its what the Met is about! Quite often the t/ops describe the destination and the stations, which is good too. If FAST BAKER ST. and BAKER ST. are next to each other on the blind it could well be worth changing it (its what I would do) but some t/ops don't always remember to change the blinds at the destinations!

I have seen 'fast' trains using the normal 'AMERSHAM', 'BAKER ST.', and 'ALDGATE' destinations.

We are not supposed to use the "fast" on the destination blind. This is after an amendment was circulated a long time ago. You still get drivers use them, which is wrong, but that's because they haven't been told not to use them. I never use the fast descriptions and if I take over a train with a fast description I change it. I will try to get a copy of the circular but this may prove difficult.

Interesting. How does someone who is hard of hearing boarding a train at Harrow on the Hill know if the train will stop at Northwick Park, for instance?

When the bulbs behind them are working properly! Back in the day when Watford branch trains ran a mixture of Semis and local trains the drivers would use FAST ALDGATE so Northwood branch customers would know which trains stopped where! I remember the Moorgate all stations-those were the days, before talk of replacement stock started, <I digress>..........

Yes, and in times of trouble! Like in 2005, after the terrorist bombings, Moorgate was used as a reversing point for City-bound trains.

Yup, I remember that. For a month or so, the Metropolitan Line was the sole service provider on the Northern part of the Circle! The Moorgate service ran very well actually!

Was stepping back used at Moorgate during the peaks in July 2005 after the bombings?

On the subject of semi fasts / fasts, I seem to recall a few years back that some Amersham peak trains ran non stop from Finchley Road to Moor Park. When did these end? I think the through Chesham trains also did this.

I think the through Chesham trains also did this. I can remember that in the early 1990s the through Cheshams still ran non-stop Finchley Road to Moor Park but by this stage they were the only trains which did so. By the time I went to Harrow as a signalman in 1996 all trains called at Harrow.
