Hi, this is my first post, albeit slightly irrelevant to LU.
Does anyone know if the Island Line usues the tripcock system, and/or is fitted with AWS or TPWS?

The Island Line uses the Tripcock system.

I've got a photo of a Trainstop at Sandown somewhere, I've been meaning to dig it out as someone else here has asked me about it in the past - eh Jim?

Having said that certain places on the NR network operate with both, and the cl313s are fitted with both, but i think thats more by coinsidence than planning!

I often wonder if AWS magnets will ever start popping up on the Met Main... I doubt it, AKAIK Chiltern Trains don't use AWS.

I often wonder if AWS magnets will ever start popping up on the Met Main... I have a funny feeling that any of our stock that goes over NR may, in the future be fitted with AWS or TPWS! I doubt it, AKAIK Chiltern Trains don't use AWS. On their on sections they do! Just not on our bit. Every bit of NR has AWS apart from places where RETB and the like operates. Are you getting muddled with Chiltern ATP Jim?

I was aware of what ATP and AWS are, I thought AWS was removed from the Chiltern Line when ATP was fitted.

I've got to find the pic (or the negatives - or just go back and take another one now I'm in the digital age).
Class 313s were fitted with TPWS as part of the Nationwide roll-out as the area they cover isn't completely equipped with trainstops, and I have this distant memory of seeing AWS on the West Highland line, despite it being RETB fitted.

Thats what i said about the 313s! No the west highland line doesnt have AWS, it uses RETB.

I've done a bit of digging and according to M. Leach in Railway Control Systems (IRSE/A&C Black 1993), RETB fitted lines have a permanent AWS magnet located 185m in rear of the fixed distant board.

TPWS is an advancement on AWS in the sense that rather than merely being a warning system it will stop a train that SPADs or goes over the speed limit. TPWS became mandatory for all mainline registered trains at the end of 2003, although has it's critics because it can only safely stop a train within the safety overlap at <=75MPH.
LU trains, I assume, are exempt because they have an ATP (better!) system fitted.
