I believe trailer car 17008 was the prototype refurbishment for the D stock. The design of seating moquette in it was also used on un-refurbished D stocks. But when fully refurbished trains came into service, they had a blue moquette. Is 17008 still running with the older design, or has it been replaced?

17008 has indeed received the same blue/green moquette as on all other refurbs.
Despite returning from Derby on 21March it has STILL to re-enter service!! The last one outstanding.

It has certainly entered service now, as I saw it yesterday morning on T107 in Dagenham East bay road.

One thing I noticed the other day was that the end windows in the UNDM look a little smaller than the trailing ends-am I seeing things?

That is the same on all single ended units, not just that particular one Unit 7008 was already discussed (with pictures) from this post in this thread.

Does 17008 really have motors? Are there photos of the car below the solebar?

That is because there are shunting controls in the ends of UNDMs.
I read that 17008 was put on motor bogies for some reason, but it must be on trailer bogies if it is in service now.

I believe the reason for it being on motor bogies was they had run out of the other kind!
