Yet another long shot, based on Timetable esoterica I'm afraid. Does anyone know the positioning moves or schedule for the Royal train and spare on the opening of the Vic on 7th March 1969? I'm currently looking at/making notes on TTN 30/69, which was the timetable notice for opening day - unusually the galley changes half-way through with Warren Street being removed and supplanted by Victoria after 1500 when the service opened to the public. There are two starters empty from Victoria at 0534 and 0549, but no reference in the TT galley to positioning moves for the train (as in Mike Hornes book): It was not felt appropriate to have an opening ceremony until the line reached Victoria, and it was at 1130am that HMQ Liz II pressed the twin start buttons [...] and 'drove' it automatically between Green Park and Oxford Circus stations. I can't immediately see a 'gap' in the trains at Warren Street, even with the stepping back during the morning peak. Does anyone have a note of the positioning times and royal trains? (Sorry for a particularly obscure question...)

As far as I can remember the 2 trains were stopped in Northumberland Pk for about a week before the official opening and cleaned until everything was gleaming, they then ran empty to Victoria to await the VIP's.I can still remember the car number Lizzie "drove"3052,used to have a plaque on J door till some scrote nicked it!!!

Cheers - after a bit of digging I've found out that the Royal Train was T411, but the empty moves are conspicuous by their absence from the TT galley; the shiny trains must have run off Northumberland Park quite early as there's a 4 - 4½ frequency into Warren Street after 0730.
As the TTN seems to be largely copies of WTT No 2 - which I can't find, the only basis I've got for an educated guess is WTT 1 when trains 381 - 384 (this being before Victoria train numbering was changed to avoid confusion with the Picc) went beyond Highbury between 0630 - 0700 two minutes before a following passenger; therefore - if you can dredge the depths of memory - would that be about the sort of time the shiny trains went to Victoria?

Victoria line numbering changed from 3xx to 2xx numbers when the line extended from Warren St to Victoria, afraid I can't tell you when the specials left the depot, but the passenger service past Warren St was scheduled to start at around 15:00.

The Queen must think the whole world smells disinfectant and polish! Not forgetting fresh paint! There's a bit in Andy McNab's first book (I think) where he - as a young squaddie in the army - is ordered to paint a patch of brown grass in front of the regiment HQ green before a royal visit. Such madness probably goes on all over the place before Her Maj turns up at places!

The info you want is in the Royal trains notice (blue peril) every time any of the Royals opened a bit of the tube one was issued.
