And quite a few showing Shepherds Bush Green.....which never happened... Possibly what it will be called on reopening? 'fraid not - I'm onvolved with the Shepherd's Bush/White City/Wood Lane works and the only name change will be on the H&C.

Were the 92ts on the Central as long ago as 1991? Not sure when the first delivery was, but they did not enter passenger service until April 1993, not March 1992 as someone mentioned earlier.

I remember them all in Ruislip Depot during the May 1993 open day. The first one I remember travelling on in passenger service was in the December of that year.

I bow to your superior knowledge and Wikipedia of course.
I was just the messenger for the email I posted but the source was my SCM at Wood Lane who took the train down the Branch, can't fault him for being a year out afterall it was a long time ago.
Tom, ask him about it when you next see him.

My first ride was on the second day of service - the first train was running off peak between Liverpool Street and White City as train 165. In effect, this was a special set number, and effectively took the place of train 52 (off peak). It was a few weeks before the trains started taking over normal running duties.

Tom, ask him about it when you next see him. I would do if I knew who the SCM was/is these days. MD? I'll also make some enquiries with the 92TS Commissioning Engineer.

I believe the 92ts have a few design faults one of these is the cab front on many units has come away from the main bodywork and has had to be reinstated using a heavy duty adhesive, another common problem is the centre windows in the carriages leak when it rains causing the seats to become wet. Surely it's the seal that's gone? One hopes the front cab isn't being held on by sticky tape!

Going back to the Electronic Destination Display on the front. I was with my friends today at Notting Hill Gate and a Central Line train was going to Epping but on the destination diplay it looked like 'FPPING' Uzair

First Into Service 19th April 1993. I have a photo somewhere of one at Hainault next to a 62ts, taken on 24th April 1993.

I really think the 92TS either needs a very thoroughgoing refurb (not like their W&C counterparts) or replacing altogether. To my mind, these are the most horrible and uncomfortable stock on the system at the moment (with the refurbed C stock coming a close 2nd).

I don't think the refurbished C stock is uncomfortable (the S stock will probably be worse than the C stock). Why wern't the W&C 92TS as bad as the ones on the Central?

I'd guess because they are less used and not exposed to the elements. Also I doubt that the S stock will be worse than the C stock, what would be the point in replacing it?

That's a question many of us have been asking!
I think money should be spent on the 92ts. I would like to see a decent refurb on the 92ts similar to the new 09ts. They can have newer seats and wheelchair areas!
Below solebar is where the major work is needed! Get the ball rolling for 2012!

I wouldn't be sad to see TS92 go. I rarely use the Central Line now and, for me, that line always meant a confortable ride on the old stock.
Strangely it always seemed to me that the 1962 stock was always in better condition than the 1959's on the Northern.
Anyway in my opinion, none of the post-1973 designs of tube stock have been particuarly inspiring. They feel plastic inside and the exterior paint jobs are awful and travelling in a 1962 stock through the winter snow was downright cosy.

The 1992TS should have been better, it seems a bit silly to have prototype trains built and then get something that isn't that good. If it was because they didn't want to spend too much, thay should have refurbished the 1962TS instead. Anyway in my opinion, the refurbished livery looks better than what the unpainted trains, that only looked good when they were new.

I think the problems with the 1992 stock stem primarily from a poor build quality rather than from design issues. With exception of the state of the seats, the passenger saloon is actually well designed. Although it's less aesthetically pleasing, it works better in crowded conditions than the 1967 stock layout for example.

That's what I was trying to say in my first post in this thread, it had the potential, it was just badly done. I like the passenger saloon, like you say.

Sorry, I meant the W&C ones were as bad and the opportunity of a thoroughgoing refurb was missed - they're still as uncomfortable as before, although it could be argued that their short journey-times mean this is less of an issue than on their Central Line counterparts. I can only hope that - if LU decide to keep them 92 stocks rather than replace the lot - they should give them a total interior refit with new seats and everything. These units are uncomfortable to travel on and look grubby and dingy most of the time. The refurbed C stock feel less comfortable to me than before the refurb. The seats seem similar to the 92 stock's except with a back that leans backwards a little. The cushion is still just flat - making them little more than benches, imo.

And maybe, change the colours used for seats and poles. The best interiors to look at are the A stock and the 09TS, because they don't use yellow or red.

I don't think the colour of the poles is terribly significant. I think the 95s might look a bit dark with black poles, though the 72s on the Bakerloo aren't bad with brown.
