Just out of curiosity... I was at Victoria earlier this evening waiting for an outer rail Circle to Bayswater and two were signalled in succession, the second one minute behind the first.
I thought about waiting for the second one, on the grounds that it would be emptier, but decided against it in case it was diverted or reversed.
Now I'm thinking there's no obvious way to do that (I suppose they could have turned it into a Parsons Green or something) - what's the likelihood of an outer rail Circle at Victoria not going to Bayswater? (Just so I know next time ;D )

(Just so I know next time ;D ) It's virtually guaranteed to go to Bayswater as Circle line drivers aren't trained in the route to Earls Court, so have to go via High Street Ken. If an extreme emergency meant it could not make it to High Street Ken a pilot would bring the train to Earls Court, but that's obviously very unusual..

Personally, I wouldn't rely on the describer boards being correct!! Always take the first train as far as possible on SSR

The only reason to change it would be some sort of suspension west of Gloucester Road. It would either reverse at South Kensington, or detrain and work empty to the tunnel!

The describer boards were correct. That would have been 203 and 204 - they were bunching for most of the afternoon.

It is possible for an outer rail Circle to reverse at High St Ken and become an inner rail. Or, as bananananaman64 said, could stable at Triangle Sidings or reverse at South Ken.
All these moves are pretty rare unless there's an emergency or special timetable.

(You use the same set of points as if reversing EB to WB at Pfm 2) IR to OR can be done via a mainline shunt (or at Gloucester Rd in passenger.)

Circle line drivers aren't trained in the route to Earls Court Maybe Circle/H&C drivers should be trained to either Olympia or Parson's Green in case a Circle is diverted.

I'd be up for doing the Wimbledons personally. It may all transpire that way with the new stock anyway.

I have often wondered why District drivers are not road trained on the short section from High St Ken to Gloucester Road.
This would give greater flexibility in the event of problems at Earls Court - trains unable to get to Earls Court from Edgware Road could then be sent to Mansion House / Tower Hill / Barking and provide a service through the city instead of having to go to triangle sidings.

There was talk a few years back of district drivers being trained on the Hammersmith branch to get their own trains out the yard but that never materialised. There'll have to be a big shake up and review of road knowledge if what I hear about most of the current C Stock stabling points being unusable with S Stock is true. Extra trips to PG and Neasden at least.

yes they do take there feed off of WARS which as you know aint the most best system
when WARS goes down the dot matrix will either show every train as a edgware road or show every train 10mins away

The staff at Wimbledon can alter the Dot Matrix's very easily with a touch-screen system they have. I noticed the other day I was up as a Earls Court and it should have been a Tower Hill.. I told the attendant there and he just clicked a few buttons on his screen, the screens flashed correction and a sound went bing bong... and then it was corrected, and the screens at the following stations were also corrected (not just Wimbo). It would be good if LUL staff could do that, would reduce wrong TD's/ signals lowered I think

I regularly run back from Barking/Plaistow with a District TD but by the time I get to Whitechapel the bloke in the cabin has me back up as a Hammersmith (before he can see me pulling in). It then seems to transfer down to Aldgate East as i've only ever once been offered a wrong un there.
I've no idea how these things work but it seems the TDs under Barking cabin are almost random!

barking cabin as got the same setup as whitechapel and can put up various H&C t/d's
they simply select the site they wanna change the push the required button for the t/d but i know theres a ongoing problem at bromley by bow with the t/d so who knows it could be because of that
but if a circle line is due to start from barking sidings especially in the morning it usually goes down to whitechapel with a putney bridge t/d to make it stand out to the signal op at whitechapel

The key point is that between Barking and Whitechapel westbound it doesn't work. That is there is definately a problem with the TDs on the westbound that they are regularly incorrect on arrival at Whitechapel (and by the sound of it further east as well). This means that the signalman at Whitechapel has to set up the correct TD for each train, otherwise the incorrect TD will be transmitted through to the computers at Aldgate with the attendant risk of a wrong signal at Aldgate East. Provided the signalman at Barking has given the correct train running order to the Whitechapel signalman then the latter will be able to set up the corrected TD well in advance of the train's arrival in the platform.
