The new Bishops Bridge Road bridge allows views onto the GWML and Paddington station. I noticed yesterday that part of the old west end entrance/exit which led off suburban LT/WR platforms 13 - 16 still stands with some of the tiling still visible at the upper level. Anyone know when this closed to passengers? (A photo of it is on my Flickr site.)

Is this the same as the exit from the west end of the H&C platforms that is an emergency exit only?
Could you link to the photo, or at least your flickr site, please as this will make it easier for people to find it.

Click here to go straight to the particular photo. I'm fairly sure this is set up as an emergency exit from the H&C station, and there's what looks like an exit on the left of the photo. I'll have to have a look next time I'm there. Thanks for pointing it out, 21146.

I see on MSN Live Search "bird's eye view" aerial mapping that there does appear to be an emergency exit which leads over the EB H&C and into a roadway. This wasn't visible from my vantage point. I think the suburban station was run by BR(W) until 1970 when the two northernmost platforms passed to LT so maybe the west exit closed around then, or perhaps when the BR and LT tracks were separated? It still seems a real shame that no access is available from the Bishops Bridge area given the amount of development there in recent years. Joined-up thinking eh? Or maybe the developers weren't prepared to contribute to the cost?

I think that's the case - though why the planners were prepared to let Paddington Central go ahead without insisting on it only they can say.

It's this sort of thing that when the planners do insist on, the developers call it unreasonable and appeal. Because of the way the planning system is, and the much deeper pockets of the developers, the appeals are almost always successful.

I should've thought that if any planning authorities in the country had deep pockets it would have been the GLA and Westminster City Council.
But I agree the planning system has become a bit of a sick joke.
