OK I wasn't sure if this should be in the District, Picc, or Central area.. or maybe all 3 ;D Today I saw in Acton East Sidings (I think 23 rd) a funny train, I think it was broke up as follows (east to west): 4 cars of 1992 stock 2 cars of an old antiquey looking grey stock with lots of graffiti on (I think it had some stickers on the side "protecting our future" or something like that) 2 cars again of an old antiquey looking red stock with lots of graffiti on I had to look twice, because I wouldn't have imagined it possible to connect modern stock with antiquey stock but they were deffo coupled and it was one train.. Does anyone know what the hell it was? What it was doing? How this actually works (the formation of different cars) ? And how an ATO 96 train (even though that was only half of it, but it would have had to be driven from that half to get it in the sidings) operates on non-ATO track? Thanks

The two 'antiquey' (!) cars are presumably the 1962ts pilot unit used to transfer the 1992 stock around the system. They are modified to operate with 1992ts units. The 1992 stock was probably being looked at by the REW at Acton.
The ATO 1996 stock would still have the tripcock cut in (like when they introduced 1992ts ATP round the Central where tripcocks had to cut in and cut out at certain locations.)

It was indeed 4 cars of 92TS and 4 cars of 62TS, it was out again on the Test Track today but ran from Ealing Common to Northfields via Hammersmith for a change!

When the train reverses, does the 1992 stock DM control the PCM in the 1962 unit? It must be bizarre to push a 92ts controller forward and hear a 1962 compressor and PCM!

It was undergoing it's brake block test on the test track. I had a nosey on it in Ealing Common Depot last night, and here is a shot of the train weighed down to simulate a full load. img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/Motorman/16052008099-1.jpgEdit by Colin - that's a lovely image Jim, but it's more than double the file size allowed and twice as high!! I've now changed it to a link
