Hi I have been poking my nose into a couple of books recently- namely Mike Horne's Metropolitan Line history and Middleton Press' 'Baker Street to Uxbridge'. My querry is related to freight traffic at Uxbridge. Horne states that the station in Belmont Road in Uxbridge closed from 4th December 1938 with the new one taking over from that date. Middleton Press state that Uxbridge Goods Yard closed on 1st May 1939. Did the 'new' Uxbridge have any provision for goods traffic or was the old goods yard at the so-called Belmont Road station retained for 6 months after the opening of the new station?
Apologies for keep asking questions and thanks in advance.

As far as I know, the goods yard area became stabling sidings and the platforms remained at Belmont Road to serve freight traffic for a while longer. Not sure about the dates, but I would suggest the later date would be more correct.

The new Uxbridge Station was brought into use in December 1938 but the stabling sidings were not brought into use until 1942. The Goods Yard definitely remained open after the new station opened but was closed by the time the stabling sidings were brought into use. Thereafter freight trains only called there to run round on the reception roads, all freight traffic for Uxbridge being handled at one of the two GWR stations.

The goods yard did remain until 1st May 1939 after that the track was lifted though the station continued to stand as was later used by the grocery business of Alfred Button, I believe the new station didnt have any provisions for goods traffic and traffic ceased after the closure of the original yard. As previously mentioned goods traffic may have been transferred to the Uxbridge High Street branch. check out my page on uxbridge www.disusedtube.co.uk/page19.htm
