There were some photos posted (or perhaps liked to?) on this forum of a C stock in Upminster depot a few months back. I can't immediately locate the thread they were in, though Colin probably will be able to help.

The prototype painted C Stock 2-car unit with blue upper body was worked to Upminster depot for an open day c.1990.
There was also a proposed 'football special' advertised to run Upminster - Wembley Park when West Ham reach a cup final some time in the 1980s. A station easel poster was produced to advertise this showing a drawing of a C Stock train complete with imaginary 'football special' headboard. In the event the unions got involved (I think) and the whole plan was cancelled. Pity.

In my defence, I was up @ 5am today, doing an early turn - anyone that knows me will appreciate this week isn't one of my favourites! ;D ;D ;D ;D Mind you, getting home by midday does have it's benefits....

Aren't there some timetabled C stocks at the end of the day to Upminster?

Nope - C stocks haven't been past Barking on a regular basis for some years now.

There is another one booked to run on 20 May. Leaving Hammersmith depot at 8.45pm. Of course timings aren't to be relied upon.

C Stock was overhauled at Upminster from June 1986 (first unit 5708) through until January 1993 (last unit 5519 - the one with the experimental seating moquette - remember it?).

I just found a copy of a photo of an A Stock in BARKING sidings in an issue of UNDERGROUND magazine that I edited. The caption stated that it was in connection with training.

I'd love to see that photo! I thought A stock couldn't work past Whitechapel!

I do remember C stock being overhauled at Upminster because duing the school holidays around 1990 ish my grandad used to pick me up at elm park station at around 10:30 and when we got on the platform and waited for the train to bromley i looked round and saw that c stock train pass through non-stop to upminster
i remember pointing at it and looking at my grandad, he just used to look at me and laugh as if to say "i know how this is to you son"
the next time came around 1994 when i saw a new H+C line timetable poster which had a "u" in one of the timings which ment "calls at all district line stations to upminster"
i was very doughtful about this and sure enough when i got down on elm park station on the first evening it sped through non-stop

As I recollect there were two such workings towards the end of the evening peak ... my experience was that they did ocassionally run through to Upminster and in passenger service, they were more likely to just appear showing and terminating at Barking however.

I actually had the 'privilege' of working the first C stock booked to run in service to Upminster, at least as far as Barking. The purpose of them going to Upminster was so they could be washed (this was before the new wash was built at Hammersmith.) I actually phoned the Controller to confirm that it was booked to run in service to Upminster, and he confirmed that it was. So I announced that it was an Upminster train, despite not having Upminster on the front of the train (I forget if I put Special or just Barking up ) However, on arrival at Barking the Upminster T/Op who was to pick the train up, refused to run it in service, on the grounds that there was no Correct Side Door Enable fitted between Upney and Upminster, and he would have to keep using the override . As a result, from that point on, the train usually ran empty from Barking.
