Seen this on the current upcoming track closures pdf: Mon 23 Jun 08 Thu 26 Jun 08 Metropolitan & Piccadilly Hillingdon to Uxbridge from 21.00-21.40hrs on Tuesday to Thursday nights This seems extremely odd to me? Why do they need to close the line to traffic for 40 minutes 3 nights of the week? I'd understand it better if it was an extension to normal engineering hours. It continues on in following weeks too.

Very bizarre.. maybe so the station staff can have a meal break at Uxbridge

The plan is to take possession of one of the platforms from that time until close of traffic. The total 40 minute suspension is to allow protection arrangements to be put into place unmolested by trains trying to access the other platforms. The overall objective is to allow work on the station roof.

Does this mean that there will be short workings on the Uxbridge branch during the affected time?

They'll only be about 4 trains affected. Presumably pax to hillingdon then reverse in UXB sidings. If anyone can get a picture of a met with 'Hillingdon' as a display I'd appreciate it very very much

Which platform is it that the possession is taking...middle one? Uxbridges roof seems to be a disaster.

Thanks Harsig... 40 Minutes seems to be a large window to put out protection... Might that mean turning off the current in the whole area and then back on on the tracks in use? In response to Benedict, I would guess they might well need to close each platform in turn... Will they bother running a replacement bus?

If anything 40mins doesn't seem that generous what with putting up red lights, banners, scotching and clipping and arranging isolations.

Indeed. It must be the least used destination on there though.

Is 'LIVERPOOL ST.' still on the blind? It's on C stock, so I would imagine so.

Does A stock have 'Hillingdon' on their destination blinds? They do indeed! Why? Are there any trains timetabled there, as is the case on the Piccadilly?

Why? Are there any trains timetabled there, as is the case on the Piccadilly? I'm not sure if any trains are timetabled to terminate there, but they may do during service disruption or planned works (as discussed) so it is on the blind for that reason. Same goes for all the other reversing points.

Indeed, the last time there was a strike, some A stock trains terminated at Liverpool Street but reversed at Aldgate (which was closed). It was the first time in years that the 'LIVERPOOL ST.' blind and the 'LIVERPOOL STREET' destination was lit at Harrow!

Apparently involves 3 Met trains arriving at Hillingdon from 2100, the first is involved in the protection arrangements in some way and the 2nd & 3rd run to Uxbridge Sdgs. The 1st one finally running to Uxbridge to form the 3rd one to return, the other 2 start from Uxbridge Sdgs. The Met service interval is also amended to be 8/12 mins until end of service to accommodate the normal Picc service in only 2 platforms at Uxbridge.
