I have been removing a few trains from service lately because of DVA faults, I'm not sure how aware you guys are regarding whats been happening with the DVA so here goes.
Chimes stop working
The announcement stops working
the top left button flashes red continuously
& finally no matter what you try to do the panel locks up, oh and plus the PA fall back fails as well.
Of course then you have to detrain without the use of PA which can take some time.
Normally the DVA resets itself and reboots like it has done the last couple of times but of course the train goes out of service for safety reasons( no PA)
Just thought I would mention it in case it happens to anyone.

I've never had one as serious as that. There was a train running around with seriously low batteries in the UNDM, so every time you went slowly over a rail gap, the DVA went in to system boot up. Rather annoying setting it up 4 times a trip, especially as you lose you destination (else it would just be welcome silence! ;D) Also, I seem to get a lot of "Warning: No connection to second unit" messages.. but they seem to sort themselves My biggest issue recently was with the train radio. Tried logging in at Tower Hill, and all it managed as a message saying "FAILURE: PEI NOT FOUND!". Odd thing is... took my control key... radio stayed on! Luckily the gassing switch relay MCB sorted it. Well, I say luckily...

I've had various problems with them, including the whole thing giving up with loss of all displays, door chimes, announcements and cab to cab phone. But this has never affected the fallback PA and so did not require the train to go out of service immediately.

I was on the train the other day with no DVA or door chimes. I'm no expert, but, it seems that LU makes every new or refurbished train more technically complicated than the last, maybe focusing on reliability would be better...

A few weeks ago I was preparing a train in Ealing Common depot and couldn't get the DVA to set up at the west end of the train, so got a fitter out. He managed to get it going, but then when I tried to set up the other end, that wouldn't work either!
At that point the depot staff admitted defeat and gave me a different train, but had the cheek to ask if I was going to insist on preparing it before taking it into service (the timetabled departure time being very close by now). Of course I did prep it - did they think I was going to just take it without checking anything? Especially after their first offering was so useless!

I have rarely had a problem that wont be easily fixed by a quick trip and set of the 2 PIS MCB's

A little unrelated but I got on a 92TS carriage with the door chimes totally defective which was a great relief of silence!
An A-stock carriage also had defective door chimes, where there was a 4 second lag - so it sounded just as the doors finished closing!
The reliability of C-stock DVAs...we all know!
These gizmos aren't exactly "complicated" by world standards so wonder why they keep failing...
