I'm trying to find out why the Ealing & Shepherd's Bush was built. I know the GWR sponsored a separate company in 1905 to run from Ealing Broadway to the West London line, and that the Central London Railway was extended from Wood Lane to join it and run passenger services over it to Ealing in 1920. But when did it actually open and was there ever a GWR passenger service before 1920? Some accounts state that the GWR built the line for Central London, but why would they bother?

Don't forget also, the existance of a rail served milk depot... GWR also had parallel tracks at North Acton to East Acton, the wild undergrowth visible next to the eastbound between the two. I have a photo somewhere of a Pannier Tank loco running alongside a 62 stock train!

That came later, in 1938 - before then, the milk trains and the CLR services intermingled freely with one another.

There was certainly no mention of milk trains in CLR [1] paths/WTTs, however there were certain gaps that you could ostensibly blame on 'uncertainties' at Wood Lane - there were convenient breaks in the 'Ealing' stock times which were utilised by 'Local' stock † or ‡ at Wood Lane, are you speaking from a primary text or quoting others? (Am interested, but cognizant of the possibility of seeming antagonistic ) [1] Central London Railway - 'Central Line' WTT No 1 is next to the laptop, dates from 14/12/47 - am I right in thinking that all <Central> WTTs were entitled 'Central London Line' until 1947?

See "The Twopenny Tube" (Bruce & Croome), ISBN 185414 186 4, pg 38, where mention is made of LT's desire to construct two additional tracks between North Acton Junction and Wood Lane Junction; the plan was published in 1937, during the fever of the New Works programme. My comment comes from pg 43: Since you have all the WTTs you would be best placed to determine whether or not the milk trains and the CLR trains overlapped, as the CLR officially changed its name to the Central Line on the 28th of August 1937 (also found on pg 38).

'share' does not equate to 'intermingle freely', hence the question.
Can't find any timetabled paths for Milk Trains in CLR WTT 82 (1935) - but I'll ask a mate that has probably got the appropriate GW <spit> WTT.

As an addendum to the comment about CLR WTT 85 (1935) not having any paths in it for Milk trains; I've been perusing a couple of pre-LPTB Bakerloo WTTs in the sun with a GnT this afternoon and no other stock paths are shewn for the LMS traffic on the New Lines; I conclude that London Electric Railway TTs as a rule did not show other companies workings - with the exception of the District/Picc - for both companies in the extension to S. Harrow the 'other' company is shewn and also in the Picc TT for the extension to Hounslow West and Enfield West.

Does anyone know if it was planned to use these tracks again for the scheme to get an express central line to Heathrow from the 60s? And are the built upon today?

Not sure, much of the line remains!
