(Even out here in the cultural wasteland we get occasional flashes of high art ) What the tube station featured in the new film then? I saw it tonight and thought JLE, possibly Southwark - does anyone know?

Westminster tube station, on October 22nd 2006. It was closed for a few hours, with no more than a few hours prior warning, as far as I remember! I also heard they got some shots of them getting off the train which weren't in the movie, hence why they needed the station, but the scene in the movie could of easily been done using a mock up I imagine!?

Certainly no shots of trains in the movie, but I think the actual scene/panning would need a lot of 'pooter rendering so it was probably easier to use the real thing with real livestock. (the escalator spotter next to me got quite unfeasibly excited )

**Daily Factoid** In one of the previous Hairy Potter films, the sound from the Hogwarts Express wasnt from the same train as in the screen, but from another one and was dubbed in!

They also showed the exterior of St Pancras and the the interior of King's Cross (with messed around platform numbers) in one film, the second I think.

Kings Cross is also featured in the latest film, but no Platform 3 1/2 this time..
They cut out so much of the book for the film, and amended as it were so many aspects.

it seems odd that they didn't use a studio version, rather than shutting a central london station for half a day (or even do it at night, when there's no traffic - say close it at 9, reopen at normal time).
It was about 10 seconds of actual film - brilliant use of time, money and a busy station!
I have no idea how they can do the 7th book without making 2 films or a lord of the rings (extended edition) length film. there's far too much to fit in there - it's not like Order of the Phoenix where you can shorten lots of bits, just giving a feel for it - some bits can be shortened, however there's still at least 20 events that need to happen, some of which would need the length to go through, others of which need it for dramatic effect (else we'd have a really bad film).

Was it closed through the day or in the off-peak times? Would have made more sense to do it at night but then perhaps there are issues with 're-opening' a station to film crew etc after hours? The first film had bits of Kings X in it and was done while the station was open. I know this because a friend always excitedly yells out "I saw them doing that bit!!!!" whenever Hagrid walks through the station. She just happened to be passing through the station at the time.

I seem to remember it being the wall between the two train sheds, which would be 4 1/2.

I can see this turning into an interesting debate! In case anyone doesn't know (I'm sure you all do) the original platform was at Euston but she got confused. I keep meaning to go and take a look at the 'original' to see if it tallies to my perception of it.

Ah, I wondered about that. Some of the blurb says she was "on a train from Manchester to London and by the time she'd arrived at King's Cross the characters were formed", which I thought was a little fishy.
