We seem to be having a lot of them at the moment (or is it just me?). I supposed it's not surprising given what's been in the news recently.

I noticed it too. I don't think it's cos there's any more activity. Just the usual idiots abandoning their belongings all over the place. But because of the news people are a bit jumpier and hence more observant and probably also more confident in 'making a fuss' by informing staff of unattended luggage.

London Bridge had one this morning, an unattended bag on the Northern platforms. I am sorry, but I think people go round spaced out and totally complacent. Its only the odd one who will see something and then raise the alarm. They could be a great tool to aid the police/staff, but most like I said, are just too complacent, some dont want to be delayed, fine, they would rather be on time for work, but maimed.

People in crowd situation just act like sheep. Only a few that think for themselves and actually notice things around them. Canning Town had problems last night. I do think that people are more awarey in the last few years. But maybe this is a good thing as they might actually see what there doing and not cause problems. Ie pulling emergencu cord becuase there got on the wrong train or realising they are a piece of luggage short before they reach their final destination.

We had a sharp rise in security alerts after 7/7 (& 21/7) - then it crept back down to 'normal' levels. I expect the same will happen again once the recent London & Glasgow incidents are forgotten.

Having lots of security alerts keeps the police in good light - it looks like they're doing something. Rather like how foot patrols are always stepped up after a terrorist 'incident', and all the reactionary things like removing litterbins and cracking down on photography happen - because it looks good to the gullible public and makes the authorities look like they're doing something.

Just start fining them for leaving it unattended, say £200.
