I am somewhat confused... Everytime a Southbound train arrives at Belsize Park, sometimes you can hear a young lady screaming. I can't say that I have ever had any experiences of a ghostly nature on the system, but there are constant reports about it.

Yeah the Covent Garden story is rather famous. Possibly that has influenced what you think you saw. Every time I turn on the air-conditioning in the cab I hear a woman screaming in about the second car back. It's very unsettling until you realise it's just a bit of machinery moving (in the cab!). Every time I sit at Waterloo NB I can hear water rushing down the tunnel (it's actually crosswinds from behind the monitors - I had to get out and check). Every time I approach Elephant and let the train drift slowly I can hear a pirate ship. (Actually, it's kind of cool how the train sounds like that, ICBs in case you are wondering). We often attribute half-seen or half-heard things to something else. As a species we are very good at filling in the blanks but that often leads to us making huge errors of judgement.

Funnily enough, there was some mention of the Covent Garden "ghouls" on the radio today. I didn't catch a great deal of what was going on, because one of my staff is off sick, so I am actually having to do some work, but most certainly I heard reference to it being a heavily haunted station, and also some reference to somewhere (didn't catch the name) on The Bakerloo, before they quickly changed the subject back to hauntings in York, and some random programme on television somewhere or other.

Saw a programme on TV about hauntings on the Underground. Plenty of station staff had stories to tell, also maintenance guys. What interested me was the photograph taken, (think it was the Picc) and you saw a reflection in a window of a bloke being fried in an electric chair. According to London Underground, there were no posters about with this picture on.......Very strange!!!!

According to London Underground, there were no posters about with this picture on.......Very strange!!!! If I might correct you slightly there. The picture was of an exhibit in Madame Tussaud's Waxworks. What was actually said was that MTW had no record of using that image to advertise themselves. Which doesn't mean that another company hasn't used a photo of the exhibit to advertise something else as frequently happens. To my knowledge, LUL don't keep records of every image they allow to be put up in stations. I'm not going to bet the house on that being a ghost image. What was more interesting from that documentary was the exploration of the winds at the pedestrian (for staff) tunnel at Embankment. Yesterday I was sitting on a red and out of the corner of my eye saw something moving. An old barrier was slowly flapping backwards and forwards as trains moved elsewhere. Even though I knew the explanation behind it, it was still rather eerie to watch. I can fully understand why people get spooked underground and come to fill in the gaps with ghost stories.

Sorry to dampen the enthusiasm, but I dont believe in ghosts, they make great stories, and I love them, but a lot of it is in the mind.
True, as Alex as said, we cant prove or disprove them.

I have an open mind, the majority of sites and sounds on the system are explainable one way or another though the explanations are not always obvious or immediate. Many stations are reputed to be haunted and I have spent nights alone at many of them and heard strange noises too. I think Down St. can be an eerie location if one lets one's mind wander and I have had colleagues refuse to enter the site with me or others champing at the bit to leave ASAP and yet I was never ever bothered myself. In fact I looked forward to hearing the latest in unknown noises and one night I heard voices even though I knew I was the only one on site when I entered from the road. I was used to hearing voices there, usually the wind rushing through the decaying objects in the remains of the old wartime offices but this was different so I went to investigate the source of the faint conversation and discovered two cleaners who had just finished mopping the stairs rounding the passageway at the top, they never saw me but I think from the way they moved they definitely heard me! Parts of my station are reputed to be haunted, owing to injured and deceased troops coming through there during World War One. I have yet to see any strange activity though.......................
