THIS THREAD contains a long, topical discussion on the braindead folly of the mass closure of ticket offices, the constriction of customer service hours, the continual increase in paper ticket prices to force the use of Oyster, and so on. I'm curious to know whether not some of the things discussed in that thread - FFMs, Oyster vending machines, and the issues surrounding out-of-band ticket office openings - have come to pass or not. Also, what plans does TfL have to install standalone Oyster machines at non-LO-served LU/NR stations? Stations like Richmond, Olympia and Clapham Junction all take Oysters, but you can only refill them at Ticket Stops or at a closed ticket window. Now that zonal fares are in use and Kenny G's takeover of LO will see Oyster spread across north London, what will be done to address the needs of non-LO LU/NR stations that accept Oyster?

Had a quick re-look at the thread.
The AFM's mentioned are at a fairly advanced stage and an are being installed at many locations - just last night 2 were being fitted at the main booking hall at Kings Cross.
About 7 machines per week are being installed network wide, so the full program will take until approx Easter 2008 to finish.
Nothing certain about the 2008 fares revision, but the widely mooted £5 ticket looks like being a possibility.
However, we do seem to be having a fairly active mayoral election on our hands, so the ticket office opening times, possibly fares etc, may be politically "changed" until after an election. No bad publicity pre-election for either candidate.
I have no idea about Oyster pay as you go on the no the Overground network, however I wouldn't be surprised if the changes won't come until the Jan fares revision. My thinking behind this is some fares will change when PAYG is accepted e.g. Stratford - Richmond. You can only change fares at certain times of the year.
