I was going to continue writing 'part two' thinking my driving days were over last week, due to ill health but after 20 weeks sick, I'm back driving trains, once I get my refresher training to refresh my knowledge on the Central line. (I doubt if nothing has changed) Once I have completed my new novel - I may begin 'part two' rather than wait until I retire in 8 years time. I'm sure part two will not be so placid, after what has happened on the underground since 2002. At least I know some of you will help me with the photos if needed and credit your name in the book.

If you havent got this book, BUY IT!!! Thinking of writing a similar book, about my experiences working as an sa, but would be banned, due to the amount of expletives, especially in reference to our "dear" customers!!!. ;D

Thanks for that, Rob. If I win it, any chance you can sign it (I like signed books for some reason)?
Cheers

Give it go 'tubeboy' Your two main concerns are: If employed by LUL - the public affairs department have to read it first to give you permission for publication. No photos of staff are allowed to be shown in book. (security reasons)

I think remembering the encounters I have had with certain people will only stress me out, rather forget about them, nasty people they are!!!

My worse time was when someone jumped under my train. This woman passenger began to swear at me for not moving the body so she could continue her journey, because she was late. It didn't matter about the dead person or how I felt being the driver. Admittedly, I've met some nasty people in my time, but she was the worse.

The worst person [hard because there are so many] I have had to deal with [well not anymore because I wont even acknowledge her now] is a serial complainer and thoroughly nasty person. This "human" had the insensitivity of complaining about the ticket office being closed as well as slagging off lul staff the next day after 7/7. I was not professional in my response and maybe should have bit my tongue, but I am human at the end of the day and I couldnt let this person be so callous, especially after the loss of life as well as the superhuman efforts made by lul staff.

I'm saddened to read the stories from Rob and Tubeboy - it shows how selfish and ignorant some people are.

After the tube bombings the forum on the Evening Standard (or message board) completely shocked me. I just couldn't believe how some people could be so nasty - blamming LUL staff and running down all other staff to say it was thier fault. I put in a complaint and all the messages were deleted by the next day.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Hey look, I have said it elsewhere but it's worth saying again. There will always be a minority of people who moan and/or are rude in all walks of life regardless of the circumstances. Our staff and my colleagues did a job that day that went way beyond anything their training could have prepared them for, and whats more they did it in an exemplary way. That is a stone cold fact and it doesn't matter what anyone else says. The people that moan where clearly not there, because the customers directly involved were nothing short of heroic themselves in the way they reacted. They helped each other, obeyed instructions, assisted staff, and remained calm in a situation that was unimaginably horrific. Their reaction and actions following the explosions as well as those of our staff made me proud to be British, proud to be a railwayman, and most of all proud to work for London Underground.

Although I have never worked on the railway myself, I totally agree with your sentiments. When things go wrong on a day-to-day basis as regards train services, the staff on the shop floor always get the thin end of the wedge getting abuse from customers/cattle (take your pick which ). I just hope that the LU/TfL management structure both knows and acknowledges this.

I genuinely think that senior management are in awe of what our staff on the ground did that day. There have been numerous events since 7/7, including a thank you event for all staff involved at the LT Museum before it closed, some staff (not just managers) went to number 10 to meet senior ministers and the Prime Minister, another thank you event for those involved in the recovery, some staff (not just management) received an invitation to go to the memorial service, an event at the Hilton for all staff involved with the Prime Minister attending, some staff were honoured with MBE's, other staff were also invited to Buckingham Palace and met with the Royal family. There was also an event last month at the old Royal Naval College in Greenwich where 186 staff recieved a medal honouring their bravery. These unique medals are solid silver and made by the same company that make the OBE/MBE/CBE's. This is the first time since the second world war that London Transport (TfL) have recognised staff in this way. So I really do think that senior management understand what staff did and have done their best to recognise this fact.

I do not look to that particular publication for anything near accuracy when it comes to stories about LU. Even if staff take industrial action on the grounds of safety they will claim it's about pay and that we are all greedy! I don't care what people think at the end of the day, I'm too long in the tooth to be bothered. I know what we did and that will not be tainted by bad press or angry customers.
