Would it be possible to stable more trains in platforms? They could do, the trouble then is that they can be "prepped" (checked for their next 24 hours' service), they would have to come out of a depot after being prepped, then stable and also any work in the station area cannot be done (or becomes more difficult)

A problem the Victoria and Bakerloo lines have! Only for unplanned or emergency work, the stabling has been planned for the regular work like litter picking and regular track inspections. Both these lines have plenty of amendments when required so the process is proved to work. The only requirement to be kept in mind is provision of a road for reversing any engineering trains that run. For example two trains could be left at Aldgate pfms 2 & 3, reversing still available on outer rail platform 1 or Moorgate in pfms 3 & 4 with reversing still available on outer rail platform 1. Plenty of other opportunities.

I am just wondering what the track circuit footprint is for the A and S stocks? How much of a difference they are.

Are all the sidings at Parsons Green long enough to accommodate S Stock trains. Apart from the one behind the W/B platform obviously, it can barely fit in a C. Are the platforms at Earls Court and all stations from there to Upminster long enough to have an S Stock train in it? Oh yeh, and what about Moorgate? Barking has a lot of sidings, what about that as a stabling point? Are the new S Stock trains for the District Line be the same length as the current D Stock trains? Uzair

Lille Bridge is now being "firmly" looked into as a stabling location and train crew depot.

If the difference is 10m then I would think there will be enough space at Parsons Green. Ealing Common could be tricky, though.

Why are the trains being designed so long! The A stock are the longest surface stock trains and they have real trouble fitting into the city platforms. The S stock is going to have a nightmare at GPS, Euston Sq and Barbican!

Is there no spare capacity at Northfields now?

Not if Tubelines have anything to do with it! I imagine, any spare capacity would be used by the new enlarged picc fleet!

Isn't there a siding at Ealing Common Depot that only a 3 car D stock will fit? As S stock won't be uncoupled, will this siding be removed?

Tut tut adw!!
17 'Ealing' is the road in question - but as it is double ended (there's also 17 'Acton'), I doubt very much it'd be lifted; most likely it'll just never be used for stabling purposes

There's no way it would be lifted, as trains coming into the Ealing end of the depot would use it reach 17 Acton.
