I understand the new tube and SS stock will be open-plan, i.e. without car end doors, making each train into, effectively, one 3-400'-long car.
I can appreciate the advantages of this design but, if this is the case, has any consideration been given to what would happen in the event of a fire or severe smoke conditions on board? At the moment an affected car can be largely isolated, with the unaffected cars providing some degree of safety for passengers; the new design would seem not to allow this.
Am I missing something here? If this has been asked and answered previously, my apologies in advance.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Only the 'S' will be open plan. This isn't actually a dumb question at all, you have spotted one of the few downsides to gangway stock.
We are aware of this issue and design reviews are ongoing for this area at the moment. 'S' will be sooooooo fire proof though that you would have more luck igniting water! Well, not literally! ;D

What about the security issues surrounding open plan stock?

Again, we are aware of the problems the SSR suffers with regards to customer safety and are doing our best to ensure the emerging design reflects this. We are also looking at technological solutions to overcoming security issues. This is also verymuch an ongoing process.
