I have vague recollections from my stations days that the only "point to point" season ticket available on the Underground was between Royal Oak and Paddington, if you wanted a season between any other 2 stations you paid a flat fare based on zones passed through, but the Royal Oak - Paddington one had the station names printed on the ticket. Can you still buy these? Why was such a strange one-off ticket introduced? and did many people take them up? As a driver between the 2 stations, I can't say I notice too many punters doing the one stop journey... Most bizarre.

The point-to-point Season was a by-product of the Travelcard zonal system. They were valid to the next station when the next station was in another zone. Back in my Central Line days we had a PTP from Hanger Lane to Perivale. It was priced at slightly cheaper than the 2 zone TC. I was told in training the seasons were retained for those destinations for political reasons, thus avoiding a large price hike when the TC zones were introduced.
In the 3 1/2 years I was at Hanger Lane, I only sold one PTP season and they've now been removed from LU with the exception of North of Moor Park and the section 14 stations.

When I commuted from 1973 my weekly season from Hounslow West was to Holborn, where I worked for a year. Then when I changed jobs and used to go to Green Park the season was to Piccadilly Circus, even though I only wanted one to GP. I always felt miffed that I was paying for one station stop more than I needed. So I often came back via Piccadilly, and on occasions went EB to Leicester Square to get a seat, then come back WB!
As regards RO - Paddington, if I had not read the answer I would have assumed that it was a left-over from the day when there was a GWR, later Western Region station, service to/from RO and so there was some ancient ticketing agreement when the then Met took over the route exclusively.

Or between Paddington and Westbourne Park where the mainline platforms were only removed just prior to Heathrow electrification.

thanks folks. As it happens, I don't suppose anyone buys any kind of ticket at Royal Oak these days! It's routinely left unstaffed for long periods these days.

No-ones meant to know that LUL have unstaffed stations Royal Oak, along with Padding Sub and Westbourne Park and Ladbroke Grove shouldn't really be unstaffed because of the HEx, Overhead Wires, as if there is a problem with them, anything conductive on the station becomes live!

I think Westbourne Park BR platforms closed around August 1992.

Westbourne Park has a super round the clock as well as a control room. I think you mean Ladbroke Grove There is no Control Room SA on Nights, it is done by the Supervisor, and no Supervisor when they are on a meal break, it is then babysat by an SA. The only one that I have ever known to not be un-staffed is Hammersmith.

The only one that I have ever known to not be un-staffed is Hammersmith. There's a bit more to do down there that's why. Most importantly, you can't have signalpersons securing points. Whatever next
