Oh dear. How sad. Is nothing sacred??
One gets used to talking to someone on the 'tube' only to be told "I'm about to disappear" as they rattle down Bow Bank, or leave Finchley Road SB. Just imagine how loud folks would have to shout to overcome the noise of a full-to-standing train going full tilt down from Manor House to Turnpike Lane in summer with the end windows open.

Very bad idea, unless people use it just for emergencies, but the public are not like that!

I loved being able to make a call while underground on the Metro when I was up there, but the Metro is a much more civilised travel experience compared to the tube, you can actually hear each other.

I get the impression that Parisiens don't tend to walk around with their mobile phones clamped to their ears quite as much as we 'trendy cosmopolitan' Londoners. What worries me, and here Mr Pessimism takes over big time, is that somebody will inevitably be nerfed off a crowded Zone 1 platform by a phone user not paying proper attention.
