I wonder how the Underground and the TOCs will react as the world realizes that it is snowing in the South East ;D

Well my train nearly got stranded between Finchley Road and Wembley Park, and again just outside Northwick Park...but after a nice display of fireworks from beneath the train, and a bit of persistance on the T/Ops part he got me home in the end. Sitting in near darkness was a bit of a novelty too, lets you see clearer out across a white London.

Don't Panic Mr Mainwaring, Don't Panic......... Seriously though, everyone is panicking. Love it myself my road looks pleasant. Getting in to work was fun, Met was slowing down the circle at Baker Street and My usual route of Ealing Broadway to Holborn was not available. so i went Via Paddington and Kings Cross. (mistake) Is the signal failure more of a frozen points failure? My House/Road looks pretty P.s. Where is the 1906 Sleet train when you need it?

I suspect that the low temperatures are affecting the operation of the points - most of the delays appear to be down to 'signal failures'.

Indeed according to the current live map the only line without problems is the H&C (which I find hard to believe) with signal failures at Whitechapel, Westminster, Uxbridge, Hainault, Finsbury Park, Golders Green, Neasdon and at least one or two on the East London Line. Additionally there was a fire alert at Elephant and Castle and a faulty train at Chorleywood, and the lifts at Edgware Road (Bakerloo) have given up.
Not a good day.

Yes, saw the long train at the road bridge at Chalfont & Latimer as I drove under. The line was suspended north of Rickmansworth for a time; this was then reduced to just Chalfont-Amersham according to the staff at Rickmansworth, who were very helpful in trying circumstances. It was a shame that Chiltern refused to help out by stopping two of their SB trains to help some commuters get to work; instead they reversed a train north to south in platform 1 at about 07.30.

The train was probably too long to stop at Rickmansworth, which is why they non stop there in the peaks.

Chiltern did stop some of their trains this morning to help out, but some didnt because they were already full or were too long. We were lucky that the train was stalled on the Northbound line and that they have a depot at Aylesbury The first train to Chesham (Staff Train) was indeed pushed out this morning, running as a 16 car to Amersham, then back to Neasden. The snow was not the reason, but Metronet have ben unable to find a reason as of yet. Once this train was at Amersham the Chilterns started running up to Aylesbury, followed by an Amersham and then the Chesham (4car, instead of the 2 through trains). The sleet trains were out all night and de-icing was being done till about 10.00 and still on-going north of Rickmansworth. Plus various other on off signal/points failures, the connect radio and the loss of a "useful" IT system made the morning made for a busy morning. As usual all the met line station staff did a good job

Having just been driving back from Oxford late this afternoon, I've been listening to LBC (London speech radio station for those who've never heard of it) and have heard recordings/broadcasts from interviews in which representatives from both LU & Metronet blaming each other Only another 29 or so years of blame culture to go That is exactly the same as BBC London news :-)

Although I have to say it's quite abysmal for everything to break down to this extent because of a little bit of weather (the little bit of snow).
The Evening Substandard had a good day methinks...

Well lets put it this way, who's in charge of making sure point heaters work and who wouldn't give us permission to run sleet trains overnight as their engineering work was far more important? Any guesses yet?!! Metronet were saying that they didn't get the news about the snow until midnight!! Thats strange, I heard the news on Monday hence me getting up half hour earlier yesterday to ensure I got in to work on time on time.

its the line signal staff who CHECK to see if the point heaters are working and its the signalling department at acton who do all the faults on them its not upto metronet to cancel engineering hours to run sleets thats upto LUL in particaular its the DOM's discision and then he relays his disicion to the DOME (metronet's version of the DOM for engineering) or it may of been the case that ealing common ran out of di-icer fluid again

Before people start misunderstanding, I'm not pointing any fingers - just a general comment at the situation. I just still think the lack of implementation of what would be now rather "normal" continguency plans after over a hundred years of railways is appalling.
I just hope the people responsible (be it Metronut, Broken Tube Lines, Notwork Fail, LUL, Private operators) get penalised heavily. Simply unacceptable in a "Global City" in an "Advanced Industrialised Nation".
I'd be more understanding if it was 5 inches of snow rather than 2.

I thought it changed last year,it's the infraco's decision now whether sleets run.BTW,on the Jubilee everything was running O.K. on the east end of the line, apparently no sleet precautions were done at Neasden on our stock at least, the first train didn't leave Neasden till 05:45.

because of a little bit of weather (the little bit of snow). It was a tad more than a little bit of snow. If it was anything like the Rail Adhesion Train on the met last year, Metronet wanted 24hours notice to run it, well unless i have been mistaken for 3 years since i have been a signal operator, the idea of the the RAT was to have it there ready and waiting incase people like myself report the adhesion as being poor.

My understanding is that LU make the final decision to keep the power on and run sleet trains. I don't know if this has been changed recently. Metronet and Tubelines can claim back costs from LUL for cancelled engineering work as access has been denied. The client is liable for aborted work due to weather conditions in construction contracts up and down the land.

The snow was not the reason, but Metronet have ben unable to find a reason as of yet. You mean, they haven't been able to come up with an excuse with is at least partially believable??? Looks like from the scrrengrab of live travel news , I did miss the fun! Looks like I took my break at the right time then!

I can think of another country where snow has caused chaos this winter. It's one that is normally used as a shining example of keeping trains moving during snow...

That reminds me - I was stood on the platform having a smoke between runs at Wimbledon, when the station PA system says this little gem: "This is a customer information announcement. The met office has informed South West Trains that snow is expected tomorrow morning. As there will be delays, customers are advised to check their travel plans by visiting our website or contacting us at our customer service centre." Oh and may mate told me his daughter's secondary school will closed today because of the snow. This was all yesterday - before any snow had actually fallen!! You couldn't make it up, could you?

It doesn't look too bad in Cambridge at the moment, but that doesn't necessarily mean that London isn't buried. FCC claim that they were running empty trains all night to try to prevent things icing over. A test of their claims will be whether I get to work somewhere not too far off 9.

The central line was its usual speedy self. Missed a station or two due to unsafe platforms (covered in snow) but fun and games were pretty non existent. :-(
tbh the snow was unimpressive. i didn't see much more that a few weeks ago.
