I note that the Shanghai subway is installing rubber strips on the edges of all of its platforms to reduce the gap between the train and platform to just under 4 inches. They have apparently completed lines 3 & 4 and will have lines 1 & 2 finished by May. Anyone know anything more about this?

I don't know about the schedule in Shanghai but Hong Kong seem to have this as standard, old and new lines. The rubber strips were installed on the old lines a couple years back. One of the new lines in Hong Kong Would be great if LU could do some improvements in a couple of stations regarding this issue!

Interesting...
I hear that at one station on the NY subway, theres a plate that slides out from under the platform because the curve is so sharp the gap is huge... Can't remember exactly what station this is or was...

There are a couple actually, one of which is closing soon. South Ferry station under the Staten Island ferry terminal has a crazily sharp terminal loop. The gap fillers are needed as the gap puts the one at Bank to shame. I have some pictures somewhere. This station is being replaced by a much larger one a bit further north.
The downtown platform at 14 Street - Union Square also has them, although its not quite apparent why there is as much of a need as the gap isn't especially big. Once they broke, and the solution was to non stop the station. This was inconvenient when expecting to change to an express service there.
