I have just noticed that the January 2007 tube map explicitly credits Harry Beck - the first time as far as I'm aware. It's very small, and tucked away in the bottom right hand corner, but at least its there. The standard pocket map also credits him in the same way. This text, which is the same size as the copyright notice, is noticeably significantly smaller than on recent editions. Chris

This text, which is the same size as the copyright notice, is noticeably significantly smaller than on recent editions. From a graphic design point of view, the map's recent changes in terms of layout (due to having to put in all the accessibility modifications, like that kink in the Jubilee Line...) means that there is more going on on the page, but because the paper sizes for maps, and their relevant margins, are still retained, any other text or elements not directly associated with the main diagram have to be adjusted in order for there to be a 'balance' between each element on the page. (That, and graphic designers just being too lazy to adjust the margins in Adobe Illustrator and/or Quark accordingly!) Having said that (nay - having WAFFLED), this acknowledgement to Beck is better late than never. It's nice to know that those in the relevant department for graphic design at TfL haven't forgotten their roots. If anything, credit should have been given right at the beginning, or at least while Beck was still around. I wonder what he'd have to say about the recent goings on with the Tube map anyway?

He's featured on several of my large size tube maps I've got at home - I've got the normal ones too which mention him from 2004.
