I spent much of yesterday traipsing around London babysitting a friends' mother - she's Hungarian, so it was quite interesting comparing London's public transport network with Budapest's (compare and contrast Oxo with Déak Ferenc Tér ... I know which one I prefer), but I digress.
One of the things that came up were the various announcements we heard in various places on the combine... quite aside from the thoroughly meaningless announcement we heard explaining delays on the central line yesterday evening*, we found ourselves waiting at Green Park (jub) listening to probably the most depressed-sounding person I've heard outside my place of employment, going through network service information, various security notices, other useful tidbits of information ... before pausing - presumably - to take a sip of water and start the whole thing again. We weren't the only people commenting either...
So, uh, if anyone knows this guy (we were there at about 14.15), would they mind taking him out for a few drinks on behalf of a Brit, a Hungarian, and a couple of random American tourists we were chatting to ... it sounds like he needs it
Later in the day, we got to enjoy the somewhat sarcastic tones of the jubbly announcer announcing "Wembley Park" ... at which point I agreed that Budapest's metro/suburban rail services were just that little bit more friendly...

* something like "due to an earlier incident, train services are disrupted. We apologise for any inconvenience" - lots of words, very little of anything in the way of practical information.
