Hi! I don't know if this topic already exists, but I haven't found a really actual topic here. I need some help because in our German LU Forum we don't really come to a conclusion if taking photos is allowed without a permit only for your personal use (and of course keeping all the rules). Even on the TfL Website I cannot find any clear statement that says if it's allowed without a permission or not. When you look here, they say, everybody needs a permission, but when you use the help function and enter "Do I need permission to film or take photographs on the tube?", you get the following answer: You may take personal photographs on the Tube, but you MUST NOT use flash.
For information on filming or taking professional photographs on the Tube, please contact: London Underground Film Office 55 Broadway London SW1H 0BD
I think that something has changed there in the last month because there also is no free permit any more and you have to pay 25 GBP for a students permit. I've asked in the film office and they answered that I have to apply for a student permit, if I want to take photos or films. So can I still take photos for personal use without a permit or not ? I'm a bit confused now and hope to get an actual answer. Thanks a lot, Mac

You can take photos for personal use without a permit, however it is recommended you let the station staff know of your presence before doing so. If some say no, which could be possible as some have no idea about whether you can or not, you can quote them the sentence above and hope for the best, but 99% of the time, if they say no they mean no and you will have to accept it. I know the thread. I just wanted to be shure, that it's still up to date and nothing has changed. Another question: Can a permit help to visit the Jubilee Platform at Charing X? I've heard that it depends on the Supervisor who's there. Perhaps here is a member of staff of Charing X? I know someone who had luck at Charing X, but no luck at Hidden Holborn. And thank you for the quick answers... Mac

Technically, the Location Permit will apply, and thus this means making the necessary arrangements with the Filming Office:
To be honest with you, it shouldn't depend on what supervisor is on duty. Just because one person had a stroke of luck at Charing X doesn't mean they'll get lucky the next time. Taking an unauthorised person down to a disused platform is a bit irresponsible to be honest, and no doubt any responsible supervisor would only direct you to the Filming Office anyway.
