Ladies/Gents Having been promising myself that I would build a railway photosite earlier this year, since late June I’ve practically become a hermit trying to complete it or at least get it to a state whereby I would be happy to advertise it*. You can find it at: cjw.fpic.co.uk* in fact I’m quite shocked how many surfers have found/open images from it already given that this is the first time I have publicised it – the power of the internet eh! For ease of use I’ve divided the site into 8 sections: • London Underground • Preserved LU rolling stock • Future of London Underground • UK Mainline railways • Preserved Mainline • Withdrawn & scrap trains • European railways • Miscellaneous Transport photography In the future I may also create a LATEST section where recent photos can be initially saved and then move them to their more appropriate category when I take another lot of photos. All images should be stored in date order, oldest first (July 1985) moving forward. I’m currently working my way through photos taken between 1987-2004 (scanning/editing/naming/saving/resizing/uploading/detailing – loads of fun, but at least I’m backing them up too just in case). The site should be complete by August/September time and then I start on my ‘Other Photography site’). Incidentally, if any of you would like links created to your own respective sites on the Index page, just PM me & I’ll do the honours – first come first served – the sooner you PM me the higher up the list you’ll be. I’d also be grateful for suggestions/advice or other comments. Regards Christopher

For some reason I've only just noticed this thread.
Great site, Chris. One suggestion - could the captions on the thumbnails be made easier to read? They get a bit lost in the background.

Excellent pics. I especially like the ones where you've got the Picc running on emergency TT numbers! ;D ;D

Maybe you could set just a plain light-coloured or white background on the thumbnail pages - the captions are impossible to read over the Corfe Castle background. The latter looks like it deserves a page of its own.
Also, some of the image files seem to be quite big - you could try reducing them a bit - even with broadband they are slow loading.
It's not all negative, though! You've put together a good variety of pics - some quite unusual ones.

Blimey I thought the photo page count had shot up a bit (I was off line yesterday) Gents - thank you for your kind comments as well as your suggestions - food for though I appreciate that 1280x1024 sized images is high... indeed its the highest option from the Fotopic site currently. I consciously decided to go with this size as broadband speeds are improving/increasing and therefore in as little as a year or so 800x600 will be small and the option I chose the norm... future proofing the site if you will. Reading captions can be a pain I appreciate... type them in black & they're difficult to read on a dark background.... make them white and they're difficult to read if on top of sky. Given that I've only been a Premium Fotopic member for just over a month, looking at the options so far I could choose to have a Fotopic option image/background or one of my own (steam loco at Corfe Castle as eeyore noted). I could choose to have the text in bright blue/red etc, however to me such colours would detract from the images themselves..... SUGGESTIONS PLEASE Oracle - I have no idea what the background behind the train being there was. I assume that it could have broken down or was simply being shunted between roads... who knows I'm very grateful for the positive feedback and would welcome more comments/suggestions (good or bad) FYI I'm on the HOME straight with just photos from my travels to Berlin (2003 & 2007) to upload and categorise now.... nearly there Kind regards Christopher

If its any help I use a washed out image on the background to my fotopic site. I think I produced it in powerpoint, and it allows my site to have an element of uniqueness but you can still see the images and captions.
As I said its only a suggestion.

That train is indeed being shunted within the confines of Ealing Common depot. It is just over the set of points which allows access to the main line (well, the line from Ealing Common station anyway) - by going just past the points (a move which has a shunt route) onto an over run section, the rear of the train will be clear of all the points and would now be able to access any road at the Acton end of the depot.

Cheers Colin! cjw.fpic.co.uk/p43299443.html and cjw.fpic.co.uk/p42840693.html show the samll "straight on" section, into what I assume is a sand drag? There is a similar small section of straight track in Barons Court Siding, with left- and right turn-outs. We had to go into the sand drag and thus cover that bit of track on the 8-car AUTO TUBE RAMBLER tour as the train was fouling the Hammersmith-end points. A lovely are rare photo, thanks!

Having now scanned, named, resized, uploaded and categorised 1511 images.... the website is now complete. I hope you like it & I am aware that I still need to investigate amending the wallpaper re photo text as mentioned above Incidentally how about this for something strange, which I've stuck in the Miscellaneous section ..... a blue Routemaster in Berlin ... see link below: cjw.fpic.co.uk/c1315143_25.html
