I hope a new thread is appropriate - this was last referred to about last February following on from windscreen wipers being fitted to the new TS seen when they were being delivered down the Big Hole.
Has, or can. anyone obtain and post some pix and explanatory description of this to show its location and operation, please? I'm just interested where they put it and if it is on running lines so as to "do" a train without shunting or decoupling etc. Or whether they widened some tunnel segments or whatever?
Thanks.

It's probably a auto car wash type example that runs on a track, as opposed to the train moving...

Thinking your suggestion through, Art, but I'm still having a problem with the Stabling and Depot confines. A car wash track would be approx 18' plus end and height overhangs, and one for a 200' train would be... errrr.

There has been a train wash on Road 5 at Waterloo for a long time but it can only be used by dividing the 4 car train into 2 car units and washing each unit separately . A new train wash has been built on the reversing / stabling road No 5 but at present requires signalling modifications to allow the train to move completely through the wash.

thats correct having worked at waterloo for almost a year and working on the arrivals platform everyday since the present loco wash is indeed in road 5 but can only wash 3.5 cars on the train (whoever thought of that idea) and indeed the cars do need to split into 2 units but after detraining the trains for almost a year i find it hard to believe the car washer is ever used working on the arrivals for an hour really does make your hands as black as the ace of spades!!!

What's wrong with Metronet doing the odd hand wash of the east end cab end? They're really filthy now.

You just need a brush and a bucket of water at the end of the platform. It seems to work fine for intercity trains.

Yes, but most Intercity trains don't have 3rd and 4th rails to get in the way!
Suffice to say that there were a number of H&S issues with the way cleaning of the trains was being done, such that it is now not possible to wash the leading car.

Suffice to say that there were a number of H&S issues with the way cleaning of the trains was being done, such that it is now not possible to wash the leading car. Whatever the reason, it has been known for certain Supervisors at Bank to make Metronet's life a misery by demanding that trains be changed over because of the state of the uncleaned section. It is best left to imagination how the DLCMs have reacted to this, given that doing changeovers on the W&C is not particularly easy, and given that the peak service theoretically uses all 5 trains...
