Was watching a YouTube vid of the Waterloo & City Line, and noticed that upon entering the Waterloo platforms there's a part of the platform that looks as though it's raised. My question is, if there's need to raise at least part of the platforms, why not just go the whole way and raise the entire length of the platforms?
I'm assuming the part is raised for disabled access and such, but I would think it would benefit others as well by raising the rest of the length, in regard to a lesser gap...

I feel the very simple answer is cost.
Not forgetting that you may need to increase the height of cross passageways/ walkways etc.

the same part of the platform was raised during the closure in 2006 for wealchairs- look who uploaded that video!! ;D

Certainly at bank the cross passages between the platforms are not high enough for the floor to be raised without a similar increase in ceiling height.

Can the platform not slope down towards the wall kind of like this (except a smooth slope):

I don't think so. I remember that when this was discussed before somewhere (I had a quick browse earlier and couldn't find it, but I'm sure Colin will locate it with ease) this was suggested. I think that it was rejected on health and safety grounds, but I'm not certain.
