Last i heard, the wooden stairs down to the platform had been demolished... and apparently, part of the wall that will carry the ELL up from the current track level on to the old Broad Street - Dalston alignment, has been cleared of vegetation/rubbish etc...

I see. I must admit, I thought that they would have started lifting the track by now as I wont be needed just now as the ELL terminates at whitechapel.

I don't know about the track being lifted, because I have not been back to Whitechapel since three weeks after the closure took place... I do know that there are FRL's in the 4-foot and the respective n/b platofrm monitors and signals were covered over with black poly sheeting! That may have changed since my last visit... may take a look see on Tuesday...
Signals were B2 and B14, RB22 was on same post as B2

I remember reading the traffic circular back in june when it gave the revised signalling diagram for the whitechapel area. I do recall it stating that the boundary of the operational railway would be about 335m from the end of the platforms. I thought it was a bit odd when the station starter at the headwall of the n/b was changed to a fixed red and fixed trainstops were put in.

It's probably just to be extra safe in case someone decides to go on an adventure!

The end of that boundary is where the line will diverge to the right onto the old Broad Street - Dalston line; the ELL proper...

Is the building still being used for something? Last Saturday, I was on a 315 departing London Liverpool Street (22:22 departure) and when I looked out for Shoreditch, I noticed there were lights on in the toilets and booking hall. I'm pretty sure they weren't on when I went past a couple of months after closure.

What will happen to the station building, if thay decide to demolish it maybe one of the Steam Railways could save it by dismantling it brick by brick and rebuilding it someware?

I don't think it will be demolished, least I hope not anyway, but, one or two rumours are about, that it will be turned into a community centre... I guess all the LU equipment has been removed from the ticket hall/office...

Whilst filming recently in an office block overlooking Bishopsgate/Shoreditch High Street, I noticed that a lot of work was happening on the old viaducts into Broad Street station, clearance and so on. I assume this is in connection with the ELL extension. At the south end of the works concerned there were three tube cars on the trackbed - does anyone know the identity of these and why they are there? Many thanks in anticipation of any replies! Link to photo on my site ( a general view, but the tube cars can be easily seen): geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/p37165645.htmlMay I also take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas to one and all on this forum ;D . Regards, Geoff

Yes, they are for the new High Level tube line....you know of course about the Deep Level tube shelters that were originally to be part of the Northern express line, well TfL are demonstrating their new idea of how an elevated line will work.
Actually they are the "artisan" offices / studios that have been created out of donated cars.

Those cars at a quick glance look like theyve been refurbished into LUL corporate! Yikes

I don't think they have been, the bottom halves of 83 stock were red and the light makes it look like they are painted.

I sincerely doubt anyone would repaint those things! Maybe its a combination of the grot and graffiti on them; but the grey does look awefully like the dark grey on the front of the modern tube stocks

Thanks for the replies guys - I especially look forward to seeing the LU elevated! (Is there still any of the Liverpool Overhead Railway stock about - it would be good to see that running again, even if it were in London!)

Sorry for the thread bump, but any news on what's happened to the station building recently? Another Bump Only taken 28 days to respond - I went passed Shoreditch on a One suburban service this evening & noticed that the station platform (last working platform) is full of rubble piled into a number of mounds. Looks like the end is nigh for what's left of the station. BTW the steps up to the ticket hall are no more

Well, went past the station today, it is still there, boarded up. Rumour has that it will become a community centre... I tried looking over the bridge parapet on Pedley Street/Brick Lane, but couldnae see anything. [did not have my supa-shoes on today]

I was there last night, the bunting remains, but the lantern has finally been turned off. I have uploaded two photos to my LUL gallery on my website. Click HERE.

I went past looking at the old station on Friday. Through the ever growing weeds (more like trees now) I noted that the track has been removed and a bulldozer type vehicle was on the ballast - that's what it seemed like in the half second view that I managed to catch There's also mounds of earth/concrete on the platform too

The earth/ concrete you noticed may be part of the canopy and stairwell, plus anything else collected up... It may even be part of the platform removed.

Sad news to report - the platforms have gone Also the ballast appeared to be reddish in colour in the milli-second I had to see what's left of the station this evening (through the small gap between the tree height weeds - I jest not ). Those that may wish to try to take a picture from a Stratford bound ONE train (out of Liverpool Street) will need to set their cameras to take multiple images in a short burst in an attempt to get a half decent shot.

Also the ballast appeared to be reddish in colour in the milli-second I had to see what's left of the station this evening. Having another millisecond glimpse this evening through the trees weeds, it appears that this reddish ballast is in fact part of some sort of foundation; perhaps for the community centre that Artery TO referred to above

This mornings' milli second glance revealed that that the foundation in the old station is a mixture of both hardcore & earth - it has now higher than the old station canopy: in effect the old Shoreditch station is being 'filled in'.
The bridge is still there and you can see what little is left of the old station cavity (up to the mound of hardcore/earth) through the void - I'd guess that some sort of reinforced dam will need to be constructed below the bridge in order to provide integrity to the hardcore earth that is being built up.
Whatever construction that may eventually be built on top will probably exist at normal ground level.

probably to do with the ramp that will lead up from the original alignment onto the old Broad Street - Dalston line!
