I looked at the linke and it says TUBE NETWORK - good service in operation. Click on the real time button and we have delays at liverpool Street on the red line due to signal failure, delays on Circle and District due to tresspasser on track and a delays on the met due to signal probs at Ruislip.... Normal service or good service?

How bad is it that trains can run, yet they need to close it early for engineering?

How bad is it that trains can run, yet they need to close it early for engineering? The reason for the early closing is to give more time to fix it

Normal service or good service? Don't talk to me about the trespasser!! I was wending my merry way from Earls to High street when the juice went off from under me. Got just past triangle sidings when this 25 year old in a green and white striped T shirt comes walking towards me. I stopped and beckoned for hime to come over. (shut train down 1st and was going to remove control key as he was boarding) Just as he was about to climb up so I could put him in the saloon the radio livened up and he started pegging it towards triangle sidings. Once away from the cab he started walking and I called the controller on my mobile saying what i'd found and asked was it safe for me to jump down onto the track. The affirmitive was given and so I followed. I yelled at him to use the stairs to exit the sidings so we could get power restored and get on our way. We may not have caught the bloke (and I was in no position to get in that situation as I had around 400 people on my train), so within just under 10 mins of the juice going off I gave the all clear for my own area. About 5 minutes later once everyone else was off track we all got on our way, and I still finished on time around an hour later with no short turns. Thats a lot better than the 45 mins these things normally take.

How serious is this that they want over 6 hours to fix this? Anybody know more? London Underground will never close a line early for no reason. It is never a decision taken lightly. If this is likely to take 6, 9 or even 12 hours, then so be it. Without revealing the details (as I am not sure whether they have been made public through other means) if something vital to the running of the railway disappears, then the railway has to close.

I have no doubt LU will only take this kind of measures if they are absolutely necessary. I was just wondering about the details, the reason why. Do you think it's sensitive information?

I don't see any reason to be coy about it - several lengths of lineside cable was stolen south of Surrey Quays so they needed time to replace it.

Hopefully you are reproducing information released to the public. If it's already in the public domain then I withdraw my original "coyness." My information was from an internal source. If, however, it was not general public knowledge, then it would be pretty irresponsible to divulge such detail don't you think?

Recently a similar length of cable was stolen from the mainline at New Cross Gate - didn't do much for the evening peak there either, if I remember rightly.
