What will happen to the staff on this line when it goes over to National Rail? Will they be given the choice of whether to stay or transfer back to LUL?

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Yes. I believe that there are laid down transfer arrangements similiar to those that depot staff went through when we entered into the PPP.

My personal concern on this one is: those staff that come back to LUL may well want to go to Barking or worse (for me) Upminster. Will they be able to jump the queue so to to speak?

This is one of the things I was talking about with some of our colleagues earlier in the week. Apparently, in line with the displaced staff procedures, they probably will get priority to any depot on the combine. Obviously that could be wrong, so I'd check with the union, but this was what was thought. Sorry Colin!

Hmm...Union advice? After the way i've been led up the garden path at Acton over 'our' impending displacement issue, I'd rather trust other sources ;D ;D ;D

As I understand it (I could be wrong here), with the ellimination of seniority, if your on the rota - your on the rota. Gone are the days when the man with least seniority gets knocked off the rota by someone coming into the depot with more years under their belt. If there was an influx of ex-ELL staff into Barking/Upminster (and lets face it, there would be!), I think LU would have to create a pool for displaced operators.

North Greenwich may be a possibility, but it's the jubilee - a tube tunnel line. I would imagine, as a driver that spends most of his time in the open, the ELL drivers will probably want to stick with an 'open section' line. Having said all that, because of the way the remote booking on/off dispute is progressing at Acton & the likely problems i'll face with the ELL boys - i'm seriously considering putting in a transfer request for North Greenwich ;D ;D

I suspect they will have to nominate for which depot they want to go as anyone else would. They will probably be encouraged to apply to those depots with little or no waiting lists - Acton Picc is an example of one.
They may even be offered a place at Neasden - makes sense.....

If you do go to Greenwich Colin, don't forget, for a small ahem consideration, the tower will attempt to stable your train where it's convenient for you.Only joking,a phone call on your last trip, and as long as Alstom don't require your train we'll put you where you ask.

North Greenwich is the quickest depot for me to get to, but having started on the District I wouldn't want to work down the pipe now.

I thought it was going to become part of the NR Network, and no longer under LUL, but still under TfL's ownership ? Or have I got my facts mixed up?

AIUI:
It will not be an LUL operated line when it re-opens, but will be run as 'national rail' line. It will be offered as a franchise by TfL, and therefore operated in the same manner as any other TOC. Staff will have the option of staying with LUL, or moving to the new company.

I attended the Friends of London's Transport Museum meeting last night, which was followed by a presentation on the ELL project.
It is expected that the infrastructure from Dalston to New Cross (Gate) will remain under LU control, with Metronet or future equivalent responsible for maintenance. As a result St Mary's Curve will remain, but unelectrified.
Signalling, traction current etc will be to Network Rail standards, but won't actually be controlled by them. Signalling is likely to be controlled from the operations centre which will be built at New Cross. This will be staffed by LU staff.

Interesting, Compsci. Sounds like everyone is equally offended (the cynic's definition of consensus).

What´ll happen with Rolling Stock after 2010?

An order for enough rolling stock to operate both the extended ELL and the NLL will be placed. This also includes a 30 year maintenance contract. The supplier will be either Bombardier, Hitachi or Siemens. The winner will be announced in early June.

Has the issue of Wapping and Rotherhithe been adequately answered? I think that the very simple solution of serving both stations with a four-car shuttle from New Cross Gate (which is only four cars long) and having the rest of the trains use SDO is a very good thing to consider.
