I thought I'd let you know that The Brunel Engine House Museum in Rotherhithe are organising guided tours of the Thames Tunnel on Saturdays throughout December. I went on one of the tours today after it being recommended by Annie Mole on her blog, and it was very informative, with many Wapping Shaft inuendos! The tours run from the museum at 1,2,3, and 4pm, and costs £5 (including museum entry). The actual Thames Tunnel part of the tour is taken by A-stock running slowly through the tunnel with tunnel lights on, so that you can see the 160+ year old arches in all their glory!

Normal commuter journey time is increased then? By about a minute, yes. Not many commuters at 1:15pm on a Saturday though, more like shoppers. As far as I know, the powers that be at TfL, ELL drivers, and platform staff at Rotherhithe and Wapping were prior informed. There is enough catch up time on Saturdays at the termini, and at Saturday frequency isn't exactly high enough to cause any backing up!

Went on the tour on Saturday (after stephenk's recommendation!) and can say it was very interesting, definately worth a visit for those who haven't been yet. You can book online at the site: www.brunelenginehouse.org.uk/ to ensure you get tickets for this Christmas Eve if you're interested ;D
