Are these the narrowest on the network? They certainly look it.

I believe they are. Their narrowness and length makes the HSE **** itself and are directly responsible for the lack of firmness on their future.

But what can they do about it? There's pumping equipment or something between the tracks, I know you can certainly hear a lot of water about.
Fun fact about Wapping station: My uncle [Nick Hardcastle] drew the artwork that's on the platform walls.

My uncle [Nick Hardcastle] drew the artwork that's on the platform walls. ;D Is this the first graffiti artist to be named and shamed on this list ?! ;D Forgive me please

Wapping may close permanently when the ELLX opens due to the narrow platforms.

**MEGABUMPOMATIC!** Wapping may close permanently when the ELLX opens due to the narrow platforms. Anyone know if this is happening for certain, and does anyone know what'll happen when the universe disappears in a puff of physics at Whitechapel [overground.. under.. the underground... *mind explodes*] I ask because I might be moving to Wapping and I don't want to be without my lovely trains.

Definitely staying open in current plans.
You'll still be doing without trains from this Christmas to mid 2010 while the line is closed.

Alwaystouchout has more info on the difficulties surrounding Wapping. However, it does appear to become a permanent part of the new ELL, Rotherhite seems less sure.

It's worth pointing out that apart from a few minor tweaks that have bumped the Last Updated timestamps, most of Always Touch Out has sadly barely changed in the last two or three years, so it's not the canonical reference point it once was. There's no suggestion either station will close in recent discussion of the extension. Here's a pronouncement from Ken that should have settled the matter.

That actually made me choke with laughter Whats wrong with the idea of installing PEDs? Granted it wont solve the problem of having only one exit but it will help with the other situation.

I believe that some organisation with clout (HSE? HMRI?) has said that they will not allow any future PEDs on non-ATO lines. I also expect that they would not be happy with the space available between the PEDs and the station wall.

Thats seems very foolish to me since surely installing what is, effectively, a wall on the dangerous side of a platform (especially a narrow one) would improve safety? Sounds typical actually

I can't see what difference ATO verses manually driven trains would have on PED operation! I think it was possibly something to do with stopping accuracy - but I personally can't see how this is a safety issue. Particularly as the Jubilee Line drivers don't seem to have a problem getting it right. I still can't remember where I heard or read this to check my remembering, although somewhere on this forum is the most likely, with one of the forum meets second. If I am right, then I am just as puzzled as you are...
