Hi Everyone, Does the London Underground ever have any depot open days anymore or is it just a case of too busy and too dangerous. Darren.

Health and safety rules I imagine is the main reason. I recently went to Neasden and Stratford Market depots, this being for staff training though. Even as staff [on the station side] I just cant walk into a depot, despite having staff ID.

how lonely are the rail enthusiasts that they don't have anywhere to go on christmas!
I'm sure the LU staff would love to take us round.
...maybe when there is an engineering possesion i.e Highgate depot during the Camden - East Finch suspension

The only realistic chance of seeing LU stock at an open day would probably be at Old Oak (as Sarah Siddons was back in 2000) or another London main-line depot Methinks that this is unlikely

I would love to do Golders Green, I have a couple of mates, think I will ask them, seeing as they are T/ops there.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

The main problem is that non-operational staff are required to hold a certificate to enter each depot. A Depot 'A' cert is for areas with over head leads and lifting etc, and a Depot 'B' is for all other areas (I'm sure thats the right way around! ). You need a cert for each depot, so holding one for Ealing Common will not get you access to Upminster for example.

It's frustrating for me as an ex-DMT to have to get a certificate to enter a depot! It's even more frustrating when the depot staff who give the training think it is ridiculous too! Then it gets exasperating because it is an LU rule not an Infraco requirement. Oh well.

I have some B&W photos of my mum and grandad (who worked on breakdowns) taken at Neasden Depot open day back in the sixties. Does anyone know when the last one was. Darren.

Early 70s. 71? I am thinking of 1989 as well, might be confusing it with Norhfields in 1991.
