Hi All This is not a rant, it may sound like it but it helps explain my story!! On Saturday @ euston there i was on the platform and due to a signal failure some were there was huge delays, there was a platform assiatant(?) i think that's what they call them, i went over to him as the platform was rammed and asked if he could help me our 3 month year old son plus some bags on to the train, he had no problem at all helping, but this is where the unhappy customer comes into play, as he was boarding us the doors started to close on us he had to physically hold half the door open to stop the doors closing on our buggy he then had to jump on the train with us, and ride to the next station with us, he wasn't to happy by this point, the told us the train wasnt ment to go untill the had shown him some form of torch. so here are my qustions:
1. Why did the train go even though the platform assistant hadn't told him?
2. If there was already delays on the line (15minutes @ 2pm) Why would he/she be so eager to get his/her train going!!!!

In probablility the driver was late and probably didn't see the CSA on the platform. Or assumed the CSA didn't board the train. This type of incident is called a PTI incident, a "platform train interface" incident. Station staff will always have horror stories about drivers (as indeed I do) and I'm sure drivers have stories about station staff. At least you found 1) A Northern Line train on Saturday that you could get on 2) A Member of staff willing to help

You mention a signal from the SA to the driver - the member of staff only needs to give a signal when an 'S' board is displayed on the headwall of the platform. One example is the Northern Line platform duty we have at my station which just involves walking about, monitoring over-crowding and making the odd announcement. We do not get involved with drivers and door closures.

In all my time working on the tube, I have only ever heard of one sa getting caught on the train and riding to the next station.
What I tend to do is stay on the platform, or have one foot in/one foot out of the train. I usually wave to the driver just to let them know I am there, when they pull in.
When dealing with disabled people, I would do the same, but get right onto the train, then jump off asap and then give the Driver the "right".
If the situation as originally described had happened to me, I would do one of two things. Either give a handsignal to the driver as the doors were closing [arms waving above my head, indicating to stop] or pull the passenger alarm, ideally I would have a "J" door key with me to reset the alarm.Otherwise I would quickly use the T/ops one.
Incidentally James, was the sa wearing a hi-vi?

A 'J door' key. They are a rarity at some stations. if any T/Ops here can get me a few Normally with anybody needing assistance getting on/off a train (a MIP or VIP) they're put in the leading car and the driver normally told.

I have almost always had a "J" door key since joining LU.
Regarding VIPs, despite saying the leading car would be best, some INSIST they go in eg the rear car due to the exit being next to the last car!

I have my own J door key, which I obtained when I first joined LU on the Notting Hill Group. I am lucky I got it when I did, as on my present station you get a J key on the bunch of keys that you get at the start of the duty. The keys, with their long chain and huge bunches, look like something out of a prison

Hi. the person in question was wearing standard LUL uniform blue blazer Blue hat, also in response to "Lord Tubeboy" he was Half in Half out BUT there was not much he could do as one door was shut and he was in the train holding the door for the buggy!! Sorry for the late response it was krapioke Sorry karaoke night @ work a Very Very long night!!

Country Cousins from Coventry should realise that they can't expect the same service on the Northern Line during a period of congestion as the might expect out in the sticks. Passengers should generally be expected to handle their own baggage ,etc. on and off the train and, if neccesary , wait for the next train. Without Drivers 'showing a bit of initiative' the whole system would grind to a halt ! So what if the Station Assistant got taken on to the next station.

I know, but, im from london!!! lived there for 21 years and have only been "up North" for a year!! i used to travel the tube everyday and i have never had a prob like this b4!!!
