Hey has anyone heard about the tram idea that has been proposed in ealing, well like 4 years ago. i personally dont have a problem with this but 80% of residents think that it is a stupid idea, has anyone heard about this? if so what do you think?

West London Tram???
I have a feeling the idea is on ice, ready to be broached again in another three years time....
I hope they have a tram route along the Uxbridge - Ealing road, currently plied by the 427 bus. Supposed to be a 38 minute journey, can take anything up to 80 minutes....

build it as the tube line that this should be - even if you end it with a cross platform at Shepherds Bush it would be far better than the tram, as wouldn't steal road space and capacity. the passenger predictions for the tram suggest overcrowding, perhaps severe overcrowding, rather quickly. either that, or TfL can't count. Perhaps change it to have double decker trams (if you have to have trams), to allow more capacity. maybe build tunnels for cars under the high streets that will be buses and trams only, so that the rat runs don't happen. Ken should at least try and appease the boroughs and locals, as much as he likes the dictatorship style of government that he saw in Bejing, he can't annoy too many people, or he will get booted come election time.

I live in Ealing (and previously Uxbridge) and i have to say that i fully support the tram. Ever tried to get through southall to uxbridge on any day? Awful. Its quicker to get out and walk through the high street. (i have to say from observation it is due to an appaling standard of driving, a ridiculess amount of traffic lights, people turning on to the road from side streets and double parking) I would like to hope the tram will change things that so public transport can actually get through to its destination in time. I have had a number of arguments with people who think it is a terrible idea.
I have to say that the worst idea was to remove the tram and trolley bus system in the first place. I understand the reasons but we seem to be going full circle, with the problem now being that to build anything there is an amout of red tape to get through that simply wasnt there before. This allowed people to build the tube and a large transport infrastructure that whilst being built was incredibly disruptive to every day life. Imagine building a tram system today that used the plough system of undergroud electrical wires? i dont think many people would stand for that.

Lol i totally agree, its bad enough going through southall anyway but even worse at rush hour. i have to use the e3 everyday, which is usually 30 mins late and totally packed but half of the people get off at hanwell church, if this tram is put in place it could reduce buses being packed and i might actually be able to feel comfatable on the bus without being squashed against the window, also it should shorten a journey to a 10 min journey like it should me rater than a 40 mins that it takes me everyday, the e3's are so bad at the moment im actually thinkin about gettin a car.

Why do all 3 boroughs object to it so much?

i dunno, i think they are all thinking about the negatives and i think they think it wil create traffic jams and such. the only problem i tink thier gonna have is that kids and teens will use it as a playground. other than that i think it is a good idea

Because they feel that it will increase congestion and steal valuable road space for normal road vehicles.

yeah but if you look at the plans its not going to affect that, im only 18 and i realised that. i know exactly what the problem is, people wont be able to overtake especially towards southall because people ARE always doing it.

Why do all 3 boroughs object to it so much? Because they're dominated by car drivers who can't see further than the end of their bonnet and don't consider those who don't or can't drive a car.

well precisely but say if they were to use public transport for one day it would be a totally different story

Because they're dominated by car drivers who can't see further than the end of their bonnet and don't consider those who don't or can't drive a car. It's not just because of traffic on residential streets: www.ealingstreets.org/ses_10reasons.htmBut I'm pro-tram anyway- Uxbridge Road traffic
